john1761 0
Does anyone know if a thumbhole stock is considered a pistol grip in NY? Also, I want to put a pistol grip and collapsible stock on a pump action shotgun. Is this legal in NY? Thanks.

So your pump gun can have a bayonette, folding/collapsable stock, and pistol grip without any issues whatsoever. Thumbhole stocks are not considered pistol grips by any legal definition except in 922r a federal law, not a state one. 922r states that a thumbhole stock is accualy 2 parts a buttstock, and a pistol grip and therefor counts as 2 parts toward total part count on a weapon. Flash hiders are evil features on rifles, but not listed for semi auto shotguns in NYS. Same as bayonettes.
Nailbomb 10,221
You should stickie this somewhere. Bless your patience. It took me a while to figure out all the laws myself. If you go back far enough you'll see some of my first posts are similar to this one. I highly recomend everyone read the laws themselves and learn them so they can explain them to others and when questioned by someone else who isn't in the know, they don't wind up sounding like this... Well this guy on the internet told me...

YOT 3,743
I actually have the PDF of the NY laws saved in a file so I can refer to it when needed. It is important. I had to learn them for my job 21 years ago. I know the NRA is not a business member here so I'll take a chance of COC violation and post this anyway... http://www.nraila.org/GunLaws/ From that page any States gun laws can be accessed. That's a good thing.
