tatonic 159
Got a buddy who is looking at Saigas but wants a Dragunov stock instead of pistolgrip. I told him I thought that may be illeagal w/o U.S.conversion. Am I right or wrong? He wants the russian model. Thanks.
imarangemaster 315
Drugonov is fine either before or after conversion. Just make sure their are enough 922R parts to allow high capacity magazines. US mags count as 3, Tapco FCG is 3. If not restoring, and the Druganov was Russian made, he would need to replace gas piston or hammer, handguard, and mags with 3 US parts.
tatonic 159
Thanks for the info, since the stock basically has a pistolgrip built in I was concerned if he went that route without more conversions.
Deadeye 325
I think he would be legal as long as he does not use hi capasity mags. my arsenal slr 95 came with a thumbhole stock and a 5 rnd mag Edited December 9, 2011 by deadeye
Bigtwin 219
I believe rangemaster may be correct. The law reads "as imported". If your firearm was not imported with a thumbhole stock, that may trigger 922r. Then you will need to follow the 922r laws. I don't know if replacing a russian "hunting stock" with a russian pistol grip type(ie thumbhole) will be ok with the ATF. I can tell you for sure one thing, the ATF will not clairify it for you. Don't ask my how I now the last part!
tatonic 159
Well I guess I get to help with a conversion. Now I'll learn how to install a bho.(or trade labor for the part)
