leadchucker 12
I just finished my 7.62. I'm wanting to secure the cleaning rod in the hole underneath the barrel. I shortened it, and it slides up into the hole just fine, but I need some way to prevent it from sliding out. From pictures, I have to guess that there is something on the bayonet lug that secures the hole end of the rod. As you can see, it's a Saiga with no bayonet lugs. So, my questions. 1. What was on those bayonet lugs that held the cleaning rod in its place? 2. What is the thread diameter and pitch of the end of the cleaning rod? Stoned_Oli 4
An AK cleaning rod fits the jag for a Mosin Nagant, which is 0.156" and 32 threads per inch per 7.62x54r.net. I believe it is pretty close to an 8-32 screw thread.
leadchucker 12
Nope. I tried putting an AK jag on a Mosin cleaning rod. Won't fit. Starts maybe one turn and that's it. They are very different. And it's definitely not 6x32. It comes from Russia. It's gotta be metric.
Stoned_Oli 4
Wow, you are right, the MN rod doens't fit the one that came with my Saiga. It does fit the one I bought for my MAK-90. My bad... I have had to use the Mosin rod to clean my MAK before, as the MAK has no cleaning rod.
rjwillow 5
You sorta need the bayo lugs on the gas tube abd FSB for the cleaning rod to work. I pressed on a new GB and FSB so I could have a rod and Lower retainer. I've seen a post here doing the thread in job. But I still think it looks better with the lugs.
