woodyp 2
Getting ready to do my conversion and just wondered if anyone had used a cold blue instead of using black black matte high temp engine paint to restore the "finish" on the bottom of the receiver after removing the trigger guard plate. I guess paint is what is on there originally? Thanks, woodyp
kresk 10,063
Cold blue is fine for screw heads and small scratches, but not an entire firearm. It won't hold up or look good.
mancat 2,368
Agreed.. Cold blue will not match at all, and doesn't last very long before fading.
pjj342 632
I cold blued the underside of my reciever. I didnt give too much of a crap how well it matched, but to my surprise it wasnt too bad. If you do use a cold blue, make sure you prep the surface well. Also, heating up the metal with a hair dryer seemed to help. I did it when I converted my rifle about a year ago(and a couple thousand rounds ago), and it still looks pretty good. If it was a more visible area of the gun, I may have looked for better options. But until I get it cerakoted, it will do.
