saigabob 4
I have a few AK 30 rd mags that just dont fit in the magwell of my saiga. The other 30 or so fit with no issues. The few of them seem to fat to fit right. Is there anything i can do to modify the mag to get it to fit?
Shankspony 40
Some of my milsurp tabs were a little thicker than others... but it sounds like you're describing the WIDTH of your mags to seem too wide?
Mullet Man 2,114
Yes, which dimension, side to side or front to back?
srrens 1
1 of my 4 magazines has the same problem - too wide across the top to fit without force. I have been meaning to shave it down with a file but I am not sure that is the thing to do...
Spetnaz Soldier 47
I also had the same problem with the romanian 30 pre bans. I took my dremel with a cutting wheel and used the face of the wheel to grind a tiny bit of material where needed now they fit perfecft.
saigabob 4
side to side they are to thick and can't get them to seat properly. They are unloaded if it matters.
Spetnaz Soldier 47
loaded doesnt matter. if you cant get the mag in the mag well the do as i said earlier, file with dremel or file or sandpaper on the thick top edges of the mag until it fits
saigabob 4
OK ill give that a try. Thanks
Shankspony 40
This certainly sounds like an instance where the mag gets fitted to the gun... I wouldn't touch the receiver unless a magwell was going in. (of course no one recommended that BTW... just where my thought went)
Spetnaz Soldier 47
I wasnt talking about the mag well I meant the mag..I hope he didnt misunderstand that.
saigabob 4
I knew what you meant. Would rather mod the $15 mag then the the actual rifle itself.Just Haven't gotten around to doing it yet
Spetnaz Soldier 47
Ya..I first started collecting mags a while back and instead of modifying the mag catch after i installed the bullet guide i just modified the tabs on the back of the mag instead..i think most people will disagree with me on this but thats the route i went...dont know if that has anything to do with this topic.... sp74supra 5
I took a dremel to the mag release on the gun. I would reccomend a file but I didn't have one handy at the time. I took a VERY and I mean VERY small portion off of the mag catch on the gun itself. Keep trying the mags and remove a little more. Mine turned out perfect, now my Saiga mags and my AK mags clip in nice and loud and do not wiggle at all, there very sturdy. Just need to install a bullet guide now. I would suggest to modify the gun, this way if your at the range with friends you can swap out mags if need be without any hassle.
BigChongus 765
I don't know why people are worried about filing the mag catch. It's a $5 part, and it's infinitely easier to file the catch once than to have to file every mag you acquire.
Shankspony 40
I don't think that thought comes to mind. From my own experience, I remember considering the options and "if I screw this up, the gun is broken." I did get over that but not until I actually completed the conversion. im_n2_vws 28
And if you file the mags. The only mags that will fit that weapon are the ones you filled. The mags wouldn't work in any other ak correctly either would they?

The mags wouldn't work in any other ak correctly either would they? That's why I choose to mod the mag catch itself.. I would rather modify that than all my mags.. just incase in the future I bought a non Saiga AK my mags wouldn't be sloppy. If your super worried.. order a new mag catch before you mod your old one. I took a dremel to my Saiga 7.62 the first night I brought it home, lol.
saigabob 4
Its not the locking thats the problem. I filed the mag catch to accept every ak mag i have ever tried. The proble is the actual width of a few of the mags i have is way to tight. Doesn't matter now. Craphole NYS there now illegal so not gonna waste my time trying to do anything with them.
