dinzag 31
Wanted to post this info... My good friend picked up a fully converted S-223 for $225 at a local gun shop. Pics will be on the way soon as Santa gets me a new digicam. Rotties aren't very good photographers as they do not have thumbs...but I digress. It has a welded on '74 style brake, warsaw buttstock, plain PG, G2, welded bullet guide & a bakelite w/.223 follower. Absolute steal!! ( paid $269 a few weeks back for a brand new one) My gun is more worn looking than his inside so his hasn't been shot much. Whoever traded it in and must have taken a hosing! Of course neither guy there knew anything about compliance parts...but after disassembly, it appears we won't have to touch a thing. IndyArms 10,186
Your BUDDY got??!?!?! Why isnt your buddy on here telling us this himself?!?!? dinzag 31
Ya - it's probably better he's not on here!! Actually he doesn't have a computer...much less internet access. I showed him all the cool shit on here & got him cured of his lust for guitars and hooked on AK's. That's actually how he got his last .223 from pawning one of his babies! His wife loves me! We're always getting bitched at for spending too much time out in the barn. We now have 2 sets of eyes scanning gun stores, gun shows & pawn shops. Seems like he has more $$$ than me though because he has acquired over 6 of 'em in the last 3 months or so. (at least his habit is worse than mine now! )
IndyArms 10,186
Indeed it is like a drug... I go thru the DT shakes each time I look thru a shotgun news... or try to check out whats on gunbroker.... I cant wait for taxes to arrive in a couple months... then it will be party time again!!! With luck... there will be some new saigas at the distributers... Cause I see a Saiga 9-02 chambered in the 9X53R that I think will make a HELL of a kickass rifle, once converted!!! thats like a .354 diameter... with a 53MM case behind that, it must have a hell of a thump when it hits something! Just gotta find hoards of ammo for that one... LOL

BattleRifleG3 16
That rifle with the welded brake and welded feedramp sounds very much like a Hesse conversion, just FYI. I'm sure it's worth the price, but I consider that fair, and probably inferior to a non-welded homemade conversion. Of course if it has the front end modded for AK handguards, that boosts it up a good bit. Edited December 5, 2005 by BattleRifleG3

We didn't see any identifiers on it. I thought it was an Elite or other custom when I saw the welded feed ramp & brake. Nope - just the factory handguard...
KySoldier 2
If its a Hesse weld job you'll know, after about 10,000rds when the thing flies apart... I avoid Hesse/Vulcan like the plague after reading some of their horror stories.

Your friend got a great deal and I'm sure the guy who traded it in got hosed big time. My friend used to work ina pawn shop and they pay very little for trade ins. That's a nice looking Saiga and your friend is one lucky guy. I prefer the Saiga handguard and don't care that much for the AK handguard. The Saiga protects the off hand better than the AK handguard from the hot barrel.
