gunfun 3,931
Any advice on beech? I may some day want to commission a PKM style stock for my Saiga so I'd be needing enough beech for that. Also, out of sheer stupidity, I bonked my beech handguard with a rubber mallet trying to push up the gas bloc lever and chipped it a bit. Is there a good way to repair a small chip [like if you cut it with toenail clippers] like with putty or whatnot? I'm debating trying to fix it or just sanding the edge down to match the chip. If it is a dent or gouge you might be able to swell it by steaming or soaking in alcohol. This might mean you will have to touch up the finish. I've also seen some amazing comebacks from judicious use of a heatgun (fancy blow dryer) You can also do this and let some superglue soak into the cracks. You want an extra runny kind, which they make. Look up wood stabilizers. Then shave gently with a knife, sand a little and touch up the finish. C&R forums have lots of good articles on how to restore wood.

JDeko 792
Fibers did seem to get cut, I should probably take pictures and either show the damage here or make my own thread. I'll check out those forums as well.

JDeko 792
I figured as much, does seem a bridge too far to do it here.

JDeko 792
Because the video I saw on how to take down a Vepr 12 had the guy using a rubber mallet and/or I had no idea there were specific tools to do it with.

Post the video so we can berate and ridicule the moron FUD. Use your cleaning kit tube or bolt carrier next time.
