paprotective 362
I did it.. I got a Savage 11 (Hoghunter) in .308.. 20" barrel (threaded), Accu-Trigger, Mueller 4.5-14x40 (mil-dot) scope, Weaver 20 MOA base. This is my 1st bolt-action rifle.. I figured 308 was a good start.. I zero'd it 2" high at 200 yards.. Gong hits at 500 (9 MOA up) and 750 yards (20 MOA up).. a little LEFT on both.. I was shooting off a 'Caldwell Green' front bag and not the bi-pod.. I used Federal 168gr OTM (M1A) match ammo. Then for the 1000 yard (1016 yards actual) I used the same ammo. I dialed up 34 MOA.. I had no spotter to help.. I shot 4 and got 2 hits on Mr. Blue.. (kid size B-21E target) Took the mini-bike out to check.. then drove back and shot 4 more.. got 2 more on paper.. Overall very happy.. I just ordered some 175gr Federal SMK ammo to try out and gonna fix the L-R issue this Sunday (hopefully).. Rifle was $428, Scope was $165, Rings $25, the 20 MOA base was $38.. The 168 OTM ammo was $19/box.. Edited June 3, 2014 by YWHIC

patriot 7,197
Nice! A little practice reading the wind, anc concentrating on the basics will tighten those 1000yd groups up some. IIRC I did best with the Fed 168gr GM Match in mine.
