sbsyncro 9
Reading a review online it sounds like someone had unspecified "issues" with mounting the AFG, but ended up happy with the setup, so I'm curious if this is a good setup, or if I might be better off with the smaller AFG2. I don't plan to use the side rail for anything, so obstructing it won't be an issue. Thanks
gunfun 3,931
My cousin has that. It is comfortble and the colors match. His is the AFG 1, and we tried it with the 2. The 1 was more comfortable. Look up member SALT here, and check out his gallery. You'll see what it looks like.

Goose 95
That's exactly what I'm using, you'll want the original AFG, I tried the 2 and it leaves a huge gap under your fingers and thumb when you hold the gun up. As in you're only gripping the gun with the middle of your palm and your finger tips, making you sort of pinch the gun rather than holding it. That's an exaggeration of the problem of course, my hands aren't that small. But the wrap around portion of the AFG1 will give you a much better hold. gunfun 3,931
Exactly that. Well explained.
sbsyncro 9
Thanks guys. Sounds like I'm narrowing down my v1 build parts list. I say "v1" because I'm sure it won't be 'perfect' enough the first time. Just need to decide on a CA legal (i. e. non-folding, non-collapsible, non-telescoping) butt stock and I should be ready to start ordering parts...
gunfun 3,931
I think it is very possible to get your V1 right. You've picked a light tough and comfortable forend which looks decent too. It tends to go well with the magpul stock too. While the proper restoration fixes so much with the Saigas, I think in your shoes I would probably leave the factory stock on, cut it a bit shorter and add a recoil pad. Bullet buttons suck too much. Bullet buttons suck too much. Unfortunately, my understanding is that in CA I'll need a bullet button no matter what. Its not an Federal AWB "evil feature" thing - its a CA DOJ requirement that no automatic shotgun can have a "detachable" magazine. Here's a diagram of what I mean: (not posted directly because its pretty big) http://content.screencast.com/users/bpchristensen/folders/Snagit/media/c4e81e5e-bf04-4d1d-8273-413144d90ea1/2015-10-26_11-57-15.jpeg Edited October 26, 2015 by sbsyncro
gunfun 3,931
OK thanks. I don't pretend to have Cali law figured out. I never looked closely into it enough.
