MPA M10 .45ACP

The Masterpiece Arms Defender series top cocking .45 ACP pistol

While I know Masterpiece Arms doesn't call it the M10 and it's not a true M10 (No fun-mode), I call it my M10.

So I found this baby used and while I've been putting off buying one, I considered it a sign and bought it.

The original M10/MAC-10 was designed and built as a throw-away SMG in hopes of a CIA/military contract but it found love in the civilian market despite being a jam-o-matic. In the 1980's through the 90's it became a poster child synonomous with being in the hands of drug dealers/gangs. Today it's pretty much a play thing for firearms enthusiasts. It's an anvil, no lie, not something you'd want to carry on your person and the old ones are still jam-o's. When Masterpiece Arms got ahold of the MAC design they set out and succeeded in producing a product that is actually pretty reliable. These built by MPA also use the old school and faithful Grease Gun magazines so the mag problem goes bye-bye.

Yeah I was looking for the Mini M11 style Defender that MPA makes and they showed me this one.  Glad I got it because I found out later there is a conversion for this one to shoot 9mm Para as well.  I still want a mini Defender though, they are neat and the guys that buy them really seem to like them.  I want the SST version (Side cocker instead of top charging knob.)

(Range Report, well sort of)

This thing is fun.  I was surprised as to how low the recoil actually is.  The fake suppressor (They call it a barrel extension) actually serves a nice user friendly purpose.  First it acts as a heat sink and because of this, you can grab it and use it as a grip.  Second, it also acts as a way to remove the impulse of expanding gas from the muzzle away from the user's second hand he may use to get a better grip on it. I prefer not to use it as a handguard and more as a way to get the expanding gas away from my hands but your preference may be different than mine if you try one out.

Shitty thing about the semi-auto loading version is the trigger slap you get. Did they ever figure that out? My cobray that is long gone now, was a real bitch to shoot till I figure it out. Problem with that is the sear was one red cunt hair off before the weapon became unsafe in order to eliminate trigger slap. The surgical tubing on the trigger never helped but I guess it did psychologically for some.

I removed the tubing from mine and fired it.  ZERO slap.  30 rounds and no slap at all, full pull, riding the reset, none.  MPA makes a fine MAC.
