  1. Used the disengaging the BHO lever spring leg, moving the BHO out of the way (up), inserting the safety lever and then re-engaging the spring trick. Worked like a bloody charm with a dental pick. Took like five minutes to re-essamble everything this time. LOL!
  2. Um, YES. Installing a pin retention solution of some kind is part of the process. If you've neglected this, you didn't 'finish the job'. This may include the aforementioned shepherds crook, some other wire retainer (bulgarian or chinese style), a retainer plate, hitch pins or some other method. Oh ok, well none of the videos or conversion sites have mentioned this process in detail. Do I just throw it in there, and eventually figure out how to do it, or is there an actual page with pictures showing how to do this instead of just showing me the outside of the receiver with th
  3. Duh! I just found this post about the Krebs plate: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=23437 The relevant piece of info is this: "The trick to installing these with a bolt hold open is to drop the leg of the spring off the BHO (or wait to install the leg onto the BHO until the plate is in place) and then to rotate the BHO up and out of the way. Then once the safety lever is installed you can rotate the BHO down into place and lift the spring leg into place. If you don't move the BHO out of the way you'll not be able to install the safety selector into the receiver as it will
  4. Hi guys, I was trying to put my converted S12 back together last night, after having duracoated the receiver a few weeks ago. I had decided to use a Krebs retaining plate instead of the "shepherd's crook" spring this time, because it seemed like a more reliable way to hold those pins in. Any way, after three friggin' hours of sweating, cussing and scratching the shit out of my new paint-job, I wasn't able to figure out how to install that damn plate and the BHO at the same time! I mean, it seems that it's supposed to work like this: 1) Seat the trigger 2) Seat the BHO lever 2) S
  5. "I, personally, know alot of Russians and it's like these guys that I know were bred to think that they're bad-asses but have nothing to back it up. This one guy is a pencil neck computer programmer, 160 pounds soaking wet. He flat out told me that he would thrash me if we ever got into a fight. I'm around 200 lbs and work out 3 days a week. He came over here from Russia when he was 17. They say things with such authority, they start to believe it themselves." If that guy went through the Russian public education system, he might be right. Holly shit! Talk about the survival of the fittest
  6. The main advantage of the PK-AS is the "black dot", which allows you to aim effectively even without batteries. That's what sold it to me. Also, a couple of eBay stores have Kobra for under $300.
  7. Wow! That's a bit high, considering that EastWave has them for $288. It's the same Belarus made scope and every thing. EastWave ships them directly from Belarus. I received it much faster than expected, in about a week and a half. Bought a POSP from them before too. It had a problem, but they replaced it without a hassle. It's funny that, in one older thread about optics, one guy says that EastWave is overpriced - that's it's probably some dude who buys stuff from Kalinka and re-sells it on eBay. Well, it looks like the roles have reversed. Oh yeah... if you have Saiga/AK rifle, do z
  8. I received mine from EastWave Products (bought from them twice now) recently. They ship from Belarus. Any way, I haven't put it on yet, because I am currently waiting for the duracoat on my Saiga to cure, but it does seem perfect for a shotgun.
  9. Check out the tri setup in the ad, in my signature line. And this one is total bad ass IMO. Where can I get those cover things for the unused rails? Seems very ergonomic.
  10. So, I painted my S12 receiver using Duplicolor 500 Degree Enamel last week, applying several coats of primer and then the paint an hour later. It's been hanging for 6 days now, as I am letting the paint cure for the recommended 7 seven days. Outside of the receiver looks pretty good, but as you can see from the picture, inside the receiver and on the rails, I have these unsightly patches of little clumps/bumps. It seems that, despite of my best efforts, I didn't degrease and clean enough in spots? So, my question is: am I stuck with these or can I do something about them, such as sanding t
  11. I am not a huge fan of Tapco products or any thing - my first experience with them was a "Galil" handguard for my S7.62x39, which wouldn't stay put and then broke. Yet, I fired the shit out of my S12, breaking it in with that Tapco folding stock on. It doesn't budge. I don't see any problem with it. It's a great deal for $45, especially considering that it's an easy, drop-in install.
  12. I just ordered this PK-AS scope for my S12 --> http://www.eastwave.ca/products/scopes/pk-as.html It's a red dot scope that's got this thing called a "black dot", that lets you aim in daylight without batteries. I think it's awesome, since I like red dot scopes, but hate to rely on batteries. It's also got a range-finder cam. As far am I am aware, this scope is one-of-a-kind. It's also a heavy-duty, military-grade optic.
  13. The latest version of the Tapco folder is actually fairly decent. It has a thick metal pin, instead of a plastic one and feels very sturdy and solid when unfolded.
  14. Some have definitely shipped, because me and other people have been receiving ours for the past couple of days. I ordered mine July 1st.
  15. I'm going to try to hold out for a week. I just got my Chaos tri-rail, Gunfixer plug, SAW pistol grip (my original pistol grip was a PoS that failed) and some AGP mags today. It's going to be hard. I don't plan on soaking the gun in nail polish any time soon. As far as the factory paint, I noticed that isopropyl thins it out pretty good after some moderate rubbing. A patch soaked with Hoppe's #9 also catches some black on it.
  16. It sucks to hear that Duplicolor Engine Enamel is just "barely adequate". From reading a bunch of old painting threads, I got the impression that it's about as good as the original paint, which would be good enough for me. Isn't it? It turns out that I was able to simply wipe off all that gray residue with a soft cloth, without even rubbing it hard. The cover looks very good now. I now painted the receiver and didn't get any residue on it. It must be some dust-cover specific phenomena - some material that they put on it. I think that 99% isopropyl is a decent choice for cleaning the surfac
  17. So, I need some advice... I'm repainting my S12's receiver. I picked the Black Duplicolor 500 Degree Low-gloss Engine Enamel for the job. I decided to try it on the dust-cover first. I degreased the metal using Duplicolor prep pads, worked it over with ScorthBrite pads, blew away the debris with a can of compressed air and then wiped it with a clean piece of cloth soaked in 99% isopropyl, followed by a dry piece of cloth. I then hung the dust-cover on a tree branch and applied a couple of coast of Duplicolor Sandable Primer 10 minutes apart and let it sit for an hour. I then applied 2 ligh

  19. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/12-g...s.aspx?a=377126 -best of both worlds Hah! That' sweet! I bought a few boxes of Federal premium copper-plated 12 pellet 00 buck once. Every time I shot one, it would leave a big-ass, slug-sized hole that went right through the thick, wood target backer, in addition to all the standard pellet holes. My buddy and I couldn't figure out WTF was going on. We thought that it was a load like these, that was accidentally mislabeled at the factory. So, we opened one of the shells up and found only the pellets, beneath a very hard, hefty cap. It's
  20. Back when I just had my pump-action 12-gauge, I used these Remington "managed recoil" 00 buck, that come in green boxes. Those are designed specifically for HD. My S12 doesn't like those too much and so, now I just use your standard Winchester 2.75" 9 pellet, non copper-plated, 00 buck. I shot plenty of that stuff over the years and never had any problems with it. I choose the non copper-plated variety, because it's less likely to go through walls and kill my neighbors. 3" magnum loads are an overkill and make the weapon harder to control.
  21. Is it easy to install without damaging the gun? Yes. Just get a AK front sight adjustment tool, (they're cheap and you should have one anyway). Use the tool to remove the front sight post, then use it to press out the front sight drum. XS includes a polymer punch with the sight, so use that, (or brass, not steel), to start the new drum in the fsb, then fine tune it with the adjustment tool. Swapping the front sight out takes 5-10 minutes and should cause no damage to your rifle or the sight, (except for some possible minor scratches to the drum, but you can avoid those if you pad th

  23. Yeah. I don't believe that those single stack WASR mags work with regular AK's. As far as that site... I don't know... I guess I can e-mail them and ask, but I like to see a little more description and hopefully a picture of what I'm ordering. They do have good eBay feedback though. Please post info you get from them. If these are american - don't buy them. American made 10rdrs have terrible reviews on Midway and other places that used to sell them. Chinese or eastern european are ok though. I found this. Will it work for you? http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?prod...=248&a
