  1. Why would anyone go on the right side of an AK anyways... However, that raises another question. What if you are using dual mags with a mag coupler? Wouldn't a folder complicate things? I like my sling swivels on the same side and if I mount optics, I want to retain the ability to fold--also, the stock tends to hit my ribs if I fold it left.. AP
  2. Try to smudge the scum on the muzzle with your finger and see if it smears, if it does, its likely a preservative--though Cosmoline is usually brown.. Should not be a big deal.. The 16" is of the same profile as the 20" so they're the same thickness.. I'd be opening a can of worms, but my logic tells me the 16" is more accurate since it will be more rigid, being of the same thickness and all.. The 16" is the original AK length. 20" will net you about 100fps of more velocity, but you may or may not sacrifice a negligible amount of accuracy (not even enough for most people to measure).
  3. A few things to check for: Canting of the sight block and gas block -ensure the rifle is unloaded, then stand the rifle on its butt--look straight down at the muzzle and see if everything looks straight Check for a precut pistol grip hole -open the top cover, shine a light into the internals and look for a square cutout just in front of the trigger (hard to see, but if you see part of it, its there) Both of these are easily remedied but if you check first, it may save you a bit of headache--esp since its your first rifle AP
  4. When folded, the ace stock is in the path of the charging handle! Now, I know that I can adjust the stock to hang lower and clear, but still.. Has anybody turned up their handle with a mapp torch so its out of the way like the romanian ak74 folders? Is there another solution besides never firing the rifle without it folded or making it fold left? AP
  5. Looks like an Ace stock, and it's definitely a folder. Ace stock, started as a 8.5 incher, but I chopped it by an inch (didn't wanna deal with shipping it back) The 7.5 ace stock with folding block and internal block brings it down to warsaw length, get the 8.5 for nato length.. You do have to cutt off your rear tang though. But once you cut you'll never wanna go back... FSB is from blackthorn, they have like...millions of them! All at a nice price of 25 bucks. Note that it doesn't include any of the farkles of a normal FSB--no plunger, no spring, and no sight post o
  6. Thanks!! Wierd that my AK costs more than my AR! Oh well, gotta pay to play AP
  7. Lots of help from this forum! Also, special thanks to Dinzag Arms--top quality parts for sure and great customer service! I used his bullet guide and hg retainer--very well engineered parts that go on without a hitch! What do you guys think of my conversion? I have to admit though, some inspiration came from Vjor's rig! This might be my first post here, I dont remember.. AP EDITED for more pics
  8. Getting midieval means drifting the pins out and artfully adjusting it with a mallet I hope! Please don't just mash on it with the pins in there
  9. I think it might be fine, I had better hold on to it and shoot it first as is.. Thanks for checking it out! AP
  10. Hello everybody, I'm new here, but I did run a thorough search before posting.. I don't have a Saiga yet, but getting one this saturday--anwayys, this question pertains to my RPK in 7.62 so I put my question here.. CAI dremel monkeys found a hammer and decided to use it on my unsuspecting crown How bad does this look? Also, if I decide to recrown, how will the chrome lining hold up where the new crown is cut? Do I need to cut a chamfer too? I am on the line on recrowning because the dent seems to be above the crown--but I am no expert on crowns Thanks! A
