  3. As the other posters have mentioned, eye relief is key. For POSP-style scopes there are two commonly used clamps: the SKS/SVD style and the AK V-clamp style. The SKS/SVD style doesn't clamp well to the AK scope rail, and the AK V-clamp style positions the scope for too far forward on the OEM Saiga. There is also a rare clamp version specifically for the Saiga, but they are hard to come by (Tantal may have some, though). Larry

  6. It counts as two parts -- the stock and pistol grip. If the folder is imported, you will start with 15 imported parts and should need to swap out 5 parts. If the folder is US-made, then installing it should leave you with 3 more parts to swap. It really is pretty easy once you get your head around the fact that you're concerned with the number of imported parts which remain. I should note that a folder on an AK derivative is "not importable" -- "not importable" is the phrase used by ATF to identify configurations which require 10-or-less parts . . . so installing the folder is just as muc

  8. Since there has never been an actual 922® conviction, there is no way to know for sure. However, that doesn't mean there never will be, nor does it mean that 922® will never be enforced against individuals . . . However, folks who purchase FBMG mags should keep these as far from any of non-compliant Saigas as possible, since ATF uses the term "possessed with" to describe how close is too close in the case of mags and a rifle (see: http://www.soupbowl.kalashnikov.guns.ru/Page10.html, 2nd letter, 2nd page). Most of the "AK kit builder discussion boards" recommend that builders exercise cau
  9. I suspect you'll need to figure out how to "bond" two springs together. Using the 8-round spring in a 20-rounder may be doable, but using an 8-round (or even a 20-round) spring in a 40-round mag is probably stretching it a bit. IMHO . . . YMMV Larry
  10. Do you intend to use a scope? If so, do you know which one? These questions are relevant since eye relief will be a concern if you decide to use a scope. The typical AK scopes sold are designed for the commie length stocks, and you will need to jump thru some hoops to ensure proper eye releif with the NATO length stocks (weaver mounts, so-called "Saiga clamps", etc.). Larry
  11. The handguard has been sold. It is not a drop-in replacment for the one on the S-308. Larry
  12. FBMG 20-round mags use imported followers, therefore they only replace two of the 14 imported parts. You'll need two more. The easy choices are: RSA hammer, gas piston, or tromix followers. Larry

  14. Your right, I didn't see the "with out mag" at first. But two points: First, it seems to be "traditional" to include the mag with when enumerating the parts count. Second, since the FBMG mags are only 2/3 US-made, it also seemed prudent to start with the full 14 parts. But, I think we are both just trying to say the same thing in different ways . . . Larry
  15. You forgot the "Magazine Body", "Floorplate", and "Follower" . . . so the total is 14 countable parts. FBMG mags would replace the magazine body and floorplate. Down to 12, so he needs to swap two more parts. Replacing both the existing buttstock and handguard with a US-made stock and handguard, lowers the imported parts count to 10 . . . Note that if the buttstock has a distinct pistol grip (such as on a drag stock , etc.), than it counts as two parts (search for the ATF letter I posted on this matter sever months ago). However, as O.S.O.K. correctly points out, this doesn't help e
  16. Yes, it's a Choate. I'm pretty sure I got it from MidwayUSA.com (http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/...leitemid=192619). Larry
  17. As I write this I hold in my hands a long awaited FBMG 20-round magazine for the Saiga S-308 . . . I can hardly type through the tears of joy . . . =D> Link for more: http://www.fbmginc.com/index.php?option=co...47&Itemid=1. Larry

  19. I've got some FBMG mag bodies on order, so I can make use of the extra parts . . . Larry
  20. Actually it's the wife's best tablecloth . . . Larry Frankenmags . . . cut the top off one and the bottom off another, glue them together, fill with epoxy for strength . . . Presto! You get an instant 16-round mag. The CA was Loctite 380 "Black Max", and the epoxy was Loctite 11C Hysol (black). Larry The handguard and retainer came from BRG3 as well . . . the retainer is somesort of sheet aluminum in a "C" shape. The gap at the top is just wide enough to slide over the the narrow portion of the barrel (at the gas block), and not wide enough to slip over other portio
  21. It doesn't get any better than this! Special thanks to BRG3 for the great custom made wood furniture, and all the rest of you for the great advice. enjoy, Larry
