if there are any sort of nuke throwing going on we are all screwed anyway for about the next 20000 years. EMP pulse without nukes seems unlikely. i think the best way to survive is already be somewhere safe. I would be more worried about abreakdown of society due to fuel/depression/enemy takeover etc. If I did have a survival kit it would be a bike, a good sleeping bag, a tarp, a hatchet or axe and a shovel. if I was going to have a firearm I think I would get by with nothing but a saiga 12. seems to me a mountain bike with a trailer is a pretty good idea if everyone in the family has one. Next step is being as self-sufficient now as you can be. When the SHTF you don't want to be relying on anyone but yourself. To all of you who genuinely think everything is going tits up get out now.. what is the difference between the vepr and the saiga? It looks like the vepr is not as flexible when it comes to cartridge size. What does it do that the saiga 12 doesn't?

What range are the contacts against hostiles in Iraq? The reason I'm asking is because I've seen a picture of an M4 with the underbarrel shotgun. I am also wondering what the effective range of a Saiga is vs an M4. I love the thought of room clearing but I wonder how effective the Saiga would be beyond 50 yards.

wow...unbelievably well said. The important thing is 'responsible use'. Admittedly, fire arms do make it easier to kill people. It is easier to run away from someone with a box cutter than a 9mm bullet. Maybe if someone at the school had been trained properly and were armed then they 'might' have been able to prevent a massacre.

What seem to be the common faults with a stock saiga out of the box? And do these faults apply to the "spetznaz and "swat" variations?

I have seen alot of really fantastic looking mods andread a lot about converted internals, moving the trigger etc etc etc... Why? I am not trying to be rude. I don't own a saiga yet but hope to one day. I am just wondering of there is something fundamentally wrong with the gun if everyone seems to need to change everything about it. Is there anyone out there who has an un-modded saiga and loves it anyway?

Hi fellow kiwis, I am a Dunedin boy trapped in England at the moment but hoping to get back soon and get a saiga for some serious pig and bunny blasting. When you guys find out what the rules are concerning saiga's and hunting or mod-ing them let me know.

It seems to me that it doesn't matter too much what you have so long as you can put the rounds where you need them. The best ammo and gun in the world won't matter a damm if you can't hit the bad guy anyway. I hear a lot of people saying you need this size round or that size round but even a .22 in the face is going to ruin someone's day (not as much as 00 buck of course).

so imp mod opens your bore as wide as it will go and the other end will narrow it as much as possible....cool. Is that the end you want for your buckshot? I want to get as many balls into what I'm shooting at as possible.
