  1. you need to remove the shroud on the fsb that covers the barrel - you have to thread the barrel, not the sleeve. the cleanest way to do it is to remove the fsb, cut off the shroud, and then surface the front of the fsb. or you could just cut the shroud off while the fsb is still on the rifle, but that is kinda the ghetto way to do it. if you do opt to remove the fsb, you may want to just consider replacing the stock fsb with a 24mm threaded fsb w/ bayonet lug. www.blackthorneproducts.com has them for like $25. good luck.
  2. JT- From what I understand, the JJPERL lock is a piece that actually fits over the stock magazine catch, with a hole in the bottom of the attachment such that you can stick a bullet or something up in there and activate the release, but you can't actually get your finger up to do it, hence the 'tool' requirement and meeting Kali law. If you do a search for 'jjperl ak lock' or something like that, there's a thread on another forum that explains a lot about it with pics. JJPERL is one of the members, and he makes these. It's a cool idea... I've never actually seen one in person, though.
  3. I have a Raddlock on my evil-feature-laden People's Republic of Kalifornia rifle, and in all honesty... it sucks ass. I can imagine if I was in a SHTF situation with my hands shaking like leaves, changing a mag would be very difficult. I'd say it all boils down to what you want out of the rifle. I for one don't really believe i'm ever going to be using this rifle to shoot BG's in the street, and enjoy the ergos and the looks of the PG and other 'evil' features... That being said, I keep my stock mag catch in the PG handle compartment, and have practiced switching them out many times,
  4. Mine started doing this right after i converted it. I'm pretty sure it was my fault, as i think i must have tweaked the spring while assembling and disassembling it. You should just be able to tweak the spring leg towards the outside of the receiver. That solved the problem for me (though i opted to replace the hammer spring, and now have the original as a spare...) Good luck.
  5. I've got a few shady features on my '08 as well, but it is only an AK after all... the ultimate caveman rifle. I've heard you can sometimes press the fsb right off, but if that doesn't work, you have to drill the dimples SLIGHTLY. That's what i had to do to get mine off, and then press it off. It was a very tight fit. I had to press the new one back on. I misjudged the thickness of the dimples on the fsb, and drilled way too deep (into the barrel a little bit). But luckily the new fsb covered it, so no big deal... My gas block is fixed the same way. Would definitely have preferre
  6. Haven't tried a colored sight post. Black Jack Buffers sells them... http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?...=20a&page=2 You can buy the drum here... http://aa-ok.com/sections/89-ak-front-sights Third item from the top. Lots of good stuff on this website, and they ship fast. Don't know anywhere that carries both
  7. My fsb had the two dimples on either side (at the 3 & 9 o'clock positions), as opposed to being pinned. Once I drilled those (analogous to punching out the pins), I used a press to get the fsb off. Support the fsb on either side (with barrel pointing upward, and press the barrel down and out of the block). Worked like a charm. I know not everyone has a press, but if you know someone that does, or can take it somewhere, I betcha' that will get it off. Also works well for getting the new one on. Good luck...
  8. I think your problem's likely the fact that the barrels are tapered - the closer to the trunnion, the larger the diameter. I have a buddy with a 20" barrel that we were going to cut and re-crown, but opted not to, due to the very problem you're having right now. Aside from a fsb w/ the proper I.D., the only things I could think would be to have the end of the barrel turned down on a lathe to .571, or open up a fsb to the larger diameter. I would bet there's something out there that would work for you, but I don't have enough experience to know for sure. There's a lot of smart dudes on
  9. As of today at 4PM PDT, J&G Sales in Prescott, AZ had about 40K rounds of 7.62x39 HP for $260 per 1k + shipping. Not shown on their website, so give them a call. (928) 445-9650
  10. See this thread: http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=33919 I'm sure there are others on this site as well. www.calguns.net is also a really good resource. Lots of places out-of-state won't deal with Kalifornia either because they don't know the laws, and/or it's a big pain in the ass. I think out-of-state operations have to register with CA DOJ, and just don't want to deal with it, which is understandable. But there are places out of state that will sell to Kali. As hallboss said, in stock form, they're 100% legal, and if you want to add the 'evil features',
  11. ha ha ha... good one... or you'd be a homeless beggar lookin' to the gub'ment to provide all the necessities you're 'entitled' to. I believe that www.the-armory.com also has some wolf 7.62x39 HP right now. http://www.the-armory.com/shopsite_sc/stor...62x39_ammo.html
  12. Call it what you will, but you summed it up that tax-paying suckers like you and me are going to be footing the bill for all these socialist incentive programs. I actually don't have a problem with low income people not having to pay taxes... but giving them back 'credits' is just ludicrous. Just like B.O. said to Joe the Plumber's face... he's just 'spreading it around'. Income redistribution, tax credits, whatever, amounts to a taking from us suckers. I know he downplays it up by saying he's taking it from the 'rich folks', but many of those same people are the ones who put their ball
  13. Yeah, they cleverly omit the part about "90 percent of the TRACED FIREARMS originate from the U.S." Isn't that the whole point of buying guns on the black market??? Hello??? Anyone home??? But that doesn't serve the MSM or the leftist agenda. This is just like (one of many of) B.O.'s bogus campaign claims that '95% of Americans will receive a tax break' under his grand plan.... eeerrrrr... only problem with that is the fact that something like 40% of Americans don't even pay federal income tax because they don't make enough money. So how the hell do you give tax breaks to people who do
  14. also worth noting is that the overall length of the rifle cannot be less than 30", so if you're using a folding stock, you're cool on a 20" barrel, but not a 16".
  15. For starters, you should try cycling the bolt carrier w/o the return / recoil spring in place (without then with mag installed), rather than 'letting her fly'. Just do it by hand, and try to see where there's metal to metal contact... If no luck there, you may want to take the bullet guide back out and cycle it through just to be double sure that's what the problem is (it's gotta be...) Good luck
