  1. Thanks for all of the replies. I appreciate them.
  2. I have two mounts for sale. Russian made. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=12320
  3. The website says quote: When is DuraCoat fully cured? DuraCoat is dry to the touch in 20 minutes, can be handled in 1 hour and is ready for use overnight. Although DuraCoat will gain most of its final hardness, elasticity and chemical resistance over a 2-3 week period Pretty amazing claim.
  4. Regarding the regular (non-bake) Duracoat, I saw someone's post on another forum that was not in favor of it because of his experiences with it. However, others swear their full devotion to it. If Duracoat can really withstand being soaked in brake parts cleaner for 5 minutes, I would prefer to go with that product because I can not fit a few rifles I want to refinish in my oven.
  5. Maybe I missed something in the past few months. Are some of the new Saigas actually arriving from Russia with skeletonized buttstocks?
  6. Have you tried break parts cleaner on the finish? If you soak a white rag and can run it across the surface without getting finish to come off on the rag, I would be impressed.
  7. or Brownells AEROSOL BAKING LACQUER? Which of these do you know for a fact will not come off with brake parts cleaner? I plan on refinishing a Saiga12 and want a finish that will not come off with brake parts cleaner.
  8. I too would love to know if it will survive brake cleaner. The only ones I know do well against brake cleaner is Gunkote and Moly-Tephlon bake on. Someone on another forum mentioned Wheeler engeineering ceramic paint, but I am not sure it will hold up to brake parts cleaner. http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/...leitemid=455475 Wheeler Engineering Cerama-Coat 4 oz Aerosol Black - Bake on Easy to use aerosol coating can be applied to practically all metal surfaces. Fine ceramic particles provide strength, durability, and lubricity. The result is a matte black finish that

Hey, Cobra buddy. . .the truth IS that the Saigas that are now coming in (the blade and post sight '06s) ARE EXP-01s. No shit..I found that out at a Russian site. It's the EXP-01 VERSION 30 (EXP-01-30) is what you and I want more than anything. Coming to the U.S. with a blade and post? What about the gas tube-is it removable like on the Saiga12-S or Vepr 12? Now if this is true, the gas port area might have to be like the Saiga12-s/Vepr12 with a picatinny rail at the base. Just too exciting.
  10. http://www.valdada.com/vn/ior/04j The finest AK optics mount that I have ever seen and handled. Centered over the bore line. Also, IOR scopes are very high quality. Formerly connected with Zeiss. They will put Leupold to shame. Precise lazer etched reticles (not cross hair wires that can potentially break). High quality German glass. Yep, they cost, but doesn't anything nice. The only other scopes I would consider anymore are Zeiss and NightForce. With optics, you do get what you pay for. http://www.nightforceoptics.com/ http://www.riflescopes.com/departmen
  11. Standard 1911 recoil springs are 16 lb Gunsprings.com has extra power 18.5 lbsprings also The colt 1911 springs are half the price of their standard AK recoil springs. Side note.. Schuetzenman on AK-47.net is offering new stainless steel 30 round AK mag springs for $ 3.50 each in quantity. Hes working on making mass produced steel lined Bulgarian type AK magazines ( 3 U.S. compliance parts). His goal is to make them better than the real Bulgarian ones. http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/showthread.php?t=277483 http://www.gunsnet.net/forums/showthread.php?t=281828
  12. It is a pistol grip as far as importation regulation is concerned, but since its part of the stock and not separate the thumbhole is considered as one foreign part rather than two. I guess I maybe need to dig up some ATF letters. Thanks man that's good info to have. Viagranov... ROFL maybe if I was Mark Martin. It is gonna be one staight up badass rifle, I'll tell ya that. The soupbowl industries letter states that the SAR 8 which I think originally was imported with a thumbhole has both foreign parts 15 and 16 ( thumbhole and pistol grip). That would make the thumbhol

  14. --> QUOTE(G O B @ Sep 5 2006, 05:36 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I would venyure to say that it would be the odd spring that didn't last the life of the gun. However the hammerspring would be a good part to keep in either you'r range bag, or bug-out kit. The recoil spring I assume has a different poundage strength than a conventional AK recoil spring. I could be wrong. Maybe someone knows for sure. Hammer springs are easier to get.
  15. You should have 14 foreign original foreign parts (with no pistol grip). The drag/thumbhole stock is only considered one part. Soo, you need 4 original parts to exit the rifle. Trigger group 3 parts. Piston 1 part.
  16. I'm pretty sure if some domestic company were to make a mag fed, semi auto, evil black shotgun, with like a 20 round capacity, and possibly even interchangeable drums to feed it, that it either wouldn't, or couldn't, be declared a DD. Look at all the shit the AK-47s, FALs, and other foreign "Evil Black Rifles" go through and all the shit those owners have to go through to get their guns the way they want. Meanwhile, domestically produced AR-15s can pretty much do whatever the fuck they want and nobody even bats an eye. I think the ATF's ability to rule on this shit falls under the fact t
  17. An after-market AK-to-870 adapter would be a great innovation. You could then use easy to find 870 stocks and the knoxx stocks.
  18. I have not shot my Saigas enough to find out. I would think that the recoil spring would be the first to wear out.
