  1. I've found Dick's to be THE most reliable source for ammunition. I have a Mossberg 500, Glock .40 (27), Bersa Thunder .380, and of course my Saiga 7.62x39, and I'm ALWAYS able to find ammo for all 4 of my guns at Dicks. Sure, it's a little more expensive now but at least I can find it. Considering I live in Lynchburg, Va (that's serious gun country folks) I find it pretty astounding I can still find all this ammo. Hopefully all this ammo stockpiling craziness will start to die down and we can get some more reasonable prices on ammo.
  2. The risk of jacking up your rifle is is small but the difficulty lies in finding high quality parts.Try to find a real AK74 or AK104 Gas Block right now and see ho wfar you get. Anybody(and I do mean anybody) can convert a Saiga very easily but there is no point unless you are using quality components. Yeah, I mean don't get me wrong. I'd like to convert my Saiga. I've got a shooting buddy with a converted Saigas and it feels nice, but right now I don't the $$ to convert. It would probably cost me about 200 for all the tools and parts I'd need, and that's 200$ I don't have. Sure, I
  3. Ok, I'll just say this: the risk of jacking up my rifle through a botched conversion job outweighs my miniscule desire to convert it. And yeah, on top of that I don't have any tools, and seeing as how I need to buy groceries right now they're really not that high on the priority list. And yes, I have shot numerous AK's. Sure, the trigger on the Saiga sucks, but at the end of the day I can still hit what I'm aiming at..multiple times...in fast succession. Bottom line: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Just out of curiousity, how much is a "modest" amount to you?
  4. Unless you mean LESS: 1: ergonomic 2: resale value 3: compatible with existing magazines Other than those three critical factors I'd say your right..... 1. Er, that's called an "opinion". I've shot plenty of AR's and AK's, and my Saiga doesn't feel different enough for me to risk screwing up my gun to move the trigger assembly <1 inch. 2. Um, why would I ever want to sell my Saiga, especially with Mobama on the throne? Duh. 3. So you're too lazy to take 5 minutes out of your day to shave down a mag catch? I had 2 AK mags that took me all of 10 minutes to make compatible wi
  5. The difference is...about 90 dollars :-0 I have the Tapco stock (the 60 dollar one) and it does exactly what a stock should do: sit up against your shoulder while you're shooting the rifle. Unless you're going to be throwing it against brick walls, don't bother with the more expensive stock. I've put mine through its fair share of abuse with no issues whatsoever. Also, keep in mind that all Tapco parts are US made and have a lifetime warranty, and they have a good customer service reputation. I say save the $90 and put it towards a nicer scope or something. As far as installation,
  6. Ok, so here's my Saiga. I just finished putting on the last of the upgrades. Yeah, I know, it's unconverted. Cry me a river. "Oh all you need to do is drill some crap and then cut some crap and then add some crap, it's sooooo easy!". Huh. Ok, if you want to do it for me, great (for free of course). Otherwise, I don't really care to F up my gun, cause knowing my skill with tools...yeah, I'd F it up. Wait, I don't have any tools either. Bummer. Anyway, to all of those who don't want to convert, you can still make a well-functioning, great shooting rifle...even if it doesn't look quite as
  7. Ok, so I'm exploring new options for a quad-rail handguard for my Saiga 7.62. I like the one on there now (Galil style with tapco rail kit--see pic), but I want more rail space. It's totally unconverted (I'll do it some day, but I don't really see the need to cut a bunch of holes in my gun just so I can move the trigger assembly 1 inch), so I'll need something that is usable with a stock Saiga Sporter. I'm looking for something in the 70 dollar range. Any suggestions?? Thanks, I'm new to this forum, and it's totally awesome!! Ok, for some reason the forum is being gay and I can't upload th
  8. Actually, for those of you short on time (or maybe patience) here's a lighting fast way to make your AK mag Saiga compliant: 1. File down the catch (obviously). 2. Go out and buy some heavy duty stainless steel hose clamps. They're super strong but can still be cut with needlenose pliers. Cut a rectangular section 11mm wide and 5mm tall. 3. Use a saudering iron (or use super glue if you don't one) to sauder the piece of hose clamp at a 45 degree angle on the forward top part of the magazine. 4. After that, I added a polymer compound that they use to patch up cracks in fiberglass and coa
  9. Ok, so I'm really--I mean really--anal about my stuff, and especially my guns. A couple days ago I leaned my saiga against a wall and it kind of fell over. When I was looking over it, I noticed the front sight had a slight cant to it. I've never looked it over that close, so it may have come from the factory like that, I'm not totally sure. I've never handled it roughly at all so this was the first and only incident I've ever had with it. So I guess my first question is, could the fall have bent the barrel slightly or the front sight? My second question is, if it came from the factory like
