  1. This affordable mod worked! Looked odd at first. Nobody at range noticed or remarked yesterday!
  2. Howdy from Texas! Mad Rat's version of "Come and Take it!" attitude and Second Amendment rights!! See "Saiga on a budget" post for the specifics. Now, If I could only decide.....if i had to grab just one gun and go, which would it be? .....hmmmm...which is my favorite? .....hmmmm.......maybe the wife could grab the .30 carbine!! PS Laser has since been mounted to scope with .22 Weaver mount. It stuck out too far to carry with sling. Mad Rat, USAF (Ret.)
  3. Wally World has some Federal FMJ in boxes of $100 at $.40 per round. Not bad for brass cased! Mad Rat
  4. Here's some pictures of the finished "Saiga on a budget" The laser has since been moved from the side rail where it was too exposed to punishment. My little fun laser was for a .22, so I moved it close to the scope by mounting a Weaver .22 scope ring and then mounting the laser to that. Works good so far and rugged! Look out hogs at sunrise!! One reader said, "Huh?" about the using the auto door trim to mitigate the dents in brass from the receiver. A photo below shows the trim used. Ultramax ammo arrived yesterday. Wally World has Federal FMJ for $.40 per round in boxes
  5. Try Gilbertsguns.com They show to have them in stock at $440!
  6. Howdy from Texas (again)! I really appreciate all of the great info on this site on scopes, mounts, stocks, conversions etc! You all helped me make my decisions. I hope this article will help another "Newbie" make some affordable additions to their fine Saiga rifle. Since I decided to buy the Saiga .223 to save $$ (AK reliability notwithstanding), I decided not to do the trigger or magazine conversions. But I found an affordable way to create a great hog, coyote (or intruder) weapon without breaking the bank. The result is an outstanding rifle that will do lots of things for under
  7. These work great. Have to hunt for them in stock, however. Manufactured by: Leapers (UTG). Made in USA? I'll check for a stamp on mine tonight!!!
  8. Does anyone have any feedback on the TAPCO T-6 Stock or POSP sights for the Saiga? Mine is pretty "nose heavy". Thanks!
  9. Howdy from Texas! New to the site and new to the Saiga. As an Old Army Texas Aggie and a cold-war era retired USAF veteran, I didn't think I would ever want a post WWII Russian or Chinese anything. I would never have imagined an AK in my gun cabinet next to a Garand! However, there are always exceptions, and the Saiga is one. Since .30 cal anything has become so expensive and rare, I started researching .223 options. The classic AR price and availability wall hit me like a 2x4. Your site was very helpful after I stumbled upon "The Saiga option". I traded a couple of old shotguns at
