  1. I've been holding off on the choke issue also, but the more I think about it the external thread might be the way to go. This is my first shotgun so it's kind of a learning project. Can someone comment on-can you get a true cylinder bore and still use internal threads? The only real point is that some specialty rounds will only work in cylinder bore configuration. At first I couldn't understand why the SWAT version didn't have a choke, but as I've been looking at different 12ga ammo I think I'm starting to see why as it's kind of the right tool for the right job kind of weapon. With the screw
  2. Other than custom add on's-I just don't see a lot of work involved. At a very basic level, you remove a cover plate and trigger guard, open a hole for the T nut to install the pistol grip, and reinstall the trigger guard/ selector stop. Drop in a new FCG, pistol grip, and stock. A little touch up and your done. The great thing is at the price these things were originally going for it offers a lot of $$$ for add on options and still get a a great gun for a small investment. Also makes for a great project and an ass kicker of a gun. I just kind of fell into mine looking for a project, AK based g
  3. I just didn't want to feel left out. 8's, 10's, whatever. Big F'ing mags with dicks 10 inches long. A bunch of them. Just make sure that they're high quality before you release them so they don't get slammed and you end up with a large investment and no return. A lot of us are going to push you for them. NOW. But take your time, make um right. My gut instinct is that no one else is serious about mass producing Saiga 12 mags (but I'm not part of the industry so what the shit do I know except that quality will sell itself). Enjoy the ride, Mark
  4. I lost all my info when I switched PC's, but try posting on the Tinkerer's guild section of Doc's Machine Shop. The site is paintball driven but it's full of Techno- Junkies, Machinist's, and Engineer types. I played Tourney Paintball for the better part of 15 years and picked up all kinds of info on spring rates, types, and suppliers from the site. Just post and your almost sure to get answers, or email Doc Nichols. http://www.network54.com/Forum/goto?forumid=9013 http://www.docsmachine.com/index.html Or, you can take the easy route and read other recent mag related posts as someone l
  5. If the mags pan out, a tack won't be necessary as he'll be an instant success on this board. Being from Italian American decent, if 10 rounders are an issue with ATF, I say SShhhhhhhhh and keep things as quiet as possible untill we have ample supplies in our hands (although if he's going to market 10 rounders I'm sure he know where the line is and how close to step). Man, if you read this, good luck from all of us and you deserve every $$$ you get for stepping up to the plate in a dry market. And don't forget, quality always shoots straight.............

    Saiga trigger

I own both. G2 is smooth and has a nice feel, but the Red Star has the ability to be tweeked any way you want. Right now the Red Star FCG is in an AK, and the G2 in my Saiga 12. After seeing the video from Finland I'd like to change it over and bring the catch to the limit to see just how fast i can shoot this thing without bump firing. For general use, I don't think you can beat the G2 for the price.
  7. I might have just answered my own question about the difference in diameters, but I just noticed that the part in question is from a RPK 74 and might have a smaller barrel than a standard RPK. Keep watching Cobra and maybe someone can comment on what I should be looking for.
  8. A while back BVAMP I think commented on a post concerning stuff on the Saiga SWAT model that the rear sight could possibly be a modified RPK sight. Anyway, as I toy with mine from time to time I ran down a RPK sight for sale, the hole for the barrel to pass through was quoted as being .888". If I'm picking up the right spot on my barrel where it would mount the barrel (Saiga 12) is 1.120". Ball park without part in hand has me opening the hole .120" all the way around. Man I just dont think there's enough meat on the rear sight area to take that much material off, but without dropping $35 t
  9. Hey, looks like McUZI moved quite a few of the 10 round USAS 10 round mags. For all you tinkerers that picked one up, don't forget to post on how your conversions went. I was on the fence about buying one and opted out as I just don't have the time with summer work load, but if it works out well it might be a good deal for a lot of members. Price is good on most USAS mags I've run across (McUZI's was very good) + you get 10 rounds. Mark
  10. topmaul, don't freak yet. I was in on the last set of mag orders. it took a long time to come through, and the mag body was received almost a week before the spring and follower.....but it came. If you can check your credit card on line it's a pretty good indication that you stuff has been shipped when the transaction shows as taken place (usu shows up 10-14 days later) Wish I was in on this buy, Mark
  11. I got this list from Tantals a few weeks ago. Sorry I deleted prices per a request from Doug when I posted a list he sent me on another site for a member as some of his prices are subject to change. If you emailed him, he'll send you his latest list usually within a few days but this should give you an idea of what he has. Also has Saiga furnature. I can say that his prices and service have won me over as a customer. SAIGA SPARE PARTS AND MAGAZINES: SAIGA SHOTGUN PARTS These original Izhmash manufactured Saiga shotgun spare parts are in mint to near mint condition and are priced to
  12. My bad, AK74's are 24mm-1.5 Too bad, thought I could use the brake as a really tight choke (Na, just thought you could spin one on like a thread pitch gauge) I don't think anyone would be stupid enough to try it on a 12, not even me, but I wonder how many have spun one on a 7.62x39 AK
  13. Is that the same thread as the AK 74 flash hider?
  14. Does anyone have a good language converter that changes Finnish to English? I'm trying to make sense of the link from the Finnish Saiga 12 Video and everything I've thrown at it butchers it.(Keys in on a few words and butchers the rest) http://www.toiminta-ampujat.net/ Thanks, Mark
  15. This was just too good to let it die, so......bump. Hey, can one of the mods add the side by side pictures to the gallery for future reference for other members?
  16. I might be if anyone knows how to do this conversion, and if it's reliable? I tried to enlarge the picture so I can get a better look but it gets distorted (for all I know at this point is that you can stick it in the hole). Picture is from another Gunbroker Saiga 12 add.
  17. This has been on Gunbroker, 50-8 round mags for sale @ $108ea=0 bids. I though I'd seen the seller in Russia's name thrown around the board before with good feedback. $108 isn't exactly cheap, but damn with all the hype over the 8 round mags I would have expected to see some gone. Can anyone clue me in? http://gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=35275918
  18. What's different about the krink that makes it more user friendly? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but I thought all the 7.62 barrel diameters were so small that by the time you open them up it doesn't leave much to work with. Is the Krink retainer different? I know some had mentioned using RPK's due to the larger barrel. I used a standard Romanian that required mig welding 2 small holes shut before I opened up the hole for the barrel, havent decided on how to attach to the gas block. I used a modified version of Cobra's idea on my upper. Anyway, if I'm missing something, fill me in.
  19. Hats off to whoever did the machine work......really need to hook them up with this forum for a lot of reasons, not to mention $$$$$ oportunity. I'm curious how the front of the mag gets retained, one guy had a mag drop while shooting and I wasn't sure if it was due to a loose fit so the mag drops easily, or just failure to properly insert it when the mag was switched. That last burst at 4:24 was bad ass.......made my day
  20. Just have to wonder if an adjustable trigger like the RED Star Arms FCG wouldn't make things a lot easier. Who's FCG is in your 12?
  21. Someone posted about using a pipe cutter w/ stainless steel cutters to do the job, as for the measurement, as far as I know all the 22's are actually closer to 23"-don't have a clue as to why........
  22. I've used the RedStar Arms FCG retaining plate on my AK and my Saiga 12 and like it on both. As far as the sight goes, it looks a lot like my Hakko (but I can't say for sure that it's made by them) and I'm not real happy with mine as it has some ghoasting(sp)/ double patterns on the sight picture and it's been exchanged once so I tend to think that's just what you get. Price was about the same also. I own a KOBRA that I like a lot more and was only slightly more expensive. See if anyone elso posts on the one you specified to be sure. I kept mine only because it was used on the shotgun that g
  23. +1 on the first BUMP BACK, maybe add a small Saiga 12 (not just Saiga) print for the dullards that don't have a clue. Those that do know it, know the reputation for speed. Damn, just had a brain storm-SPEED KILLS.........
  24. Maybe this will cheer you all up a little....I run a shop for a major car rental company and we recovered this one on Tuesday. The P.O.S. that jacked this one got his, or maybe his buddy's just really hate Fords. In either case he left his blood stains all over the seat and floor. I hate thieves almost as much as child molesters ever since my 67 Camaro SS was stolen several years ago. It's been my experience that your more likely to get your stuff back from the Cops than the insurance company, especially if they have your S/N. I've a neighbor that had a wedding ring set stolen by out of state
  25. pedal2alloy, nope but that's kind of slick in it's own way. Can't say I've seen it done that way before but it looks like you just tag it with your thumb. One of the board members is getting ready to release some BHO kits but I was looking to do something a little different. I'm just trying to figure out how to tie things together, also a little concerned about the amount of force it would require to do things my way. Seems my Galil was a little tough to throw with the thumb lever but I never did anything to it to try to soften things up.
