  1. Hey all, I have an option to get a wasr 3 for 300 flat.. no shipping, no FFL charge.. Really tempted. How's the reliability on these things? I've never actually owned a wasr in any form but I've heard the horror stories particularly for the wasr 3 because it supposedly doesnt handle the 45 length of the 5.56 too well. Any info would be appreciated. I did a bit of a google search but couldn't find anything I'd trust as much as the folks around here.
  2. the grip can probably rigged to work on a converted saiga but apart from looks is different from the other tapco saw grips and won't work with the standard pistol grip nut.

    Bi-Pod.

Broke what I think was a UTG (got it second hand, it siezed up and a mangled screw literally fell out of one of the leg joints one day, it worked fine for a few more range trips then siezed up on the locking-unlocking lever on one of the legs).. Also the UTG used to be pretty lose and swiveled too much. bought the winchester from wal mart. Liked it enough I bought another one for my mosin. edit: the walmart winchester one attacks to swivel mounts.
  4. yup, your questions and opinions are fine. You can even post a pic and say the name of the person selling it and the price.. but direct links are against the rules. For what it's worth I've never had a problem with bulgarian mags, and synthetic tends to be lighter weight so that would be my recomendation. I have the drum mag.. it's now a door stop. Doesn't work.. maybe mine was bad.
  5. Have a 100 dollar bushnell of some sort on a mosin nagant.. No problems. Had a ncstar mkIII on my .308.. After a few shots I realized the thing wiggled back and forth on it's mount.. Made me annoyed.. don't like them.
  6. thanks for the info.. guess this is pretty useless for most of us unless the other parts are available. edit: Gas tube, trunion, piston, puck.. fun
  7. I think as a general rule when your in a building filled with guns and bullets you need to be cautious and considerate, regardless of the precautions taken at the door.
  8. heres a couple. Just got the red dot from eastwave after asking Tx-zen a few questions.. Thanks! The POSP on the .308 has been fantastic holding zero through bumps and altogether not the most careful care. Got it from kalinka, the initial one shipped had a tiny scrape on the lens that made it unusable as it distracted your eye and prevented focus. Kalinka replaced it promptly. Very happy with it. Havn't got the PK-A out to the range yet.. Looks a bit scratched but not enough to be distracting. edit: btw the 5.45's flash hider is nothing like as scratched as it looks in the pic.. But
  9. there are plenty of stickies around.. but basically a fire control group, a retaining plate, a pistol grip nut.. Plus the furniture your going to use. Make sure your gun is 922r compliant (also stickied. Also there a lot of compliance calculators around). Since most .308 mags are US made it's one of the easier ones to be compliant with due to the mag countin as three parts. Trigger guard is resuable but you can buy one if you like. If your going for a dragonov look your going to need a new upper gas tube as well for upper handguards. edit: if your in california I'm not sure on the rules
  10. FCG is the fire control group- the guts of the gun (didn't see any other acronyms). It includes the trigger, hammer, disconector that kind of thing. If you've done any work on cars this is gonna be a walk in the park.
  11. oh yeah, it's been a while. Forgot about the spot welds.. Ditto on the dremel and a good cutting wheel. Still really easy. Also the part that many people thinks looks complicated is reinstalling the FCG... and it does LOOK complicated, but once you have the parts in your hand it all goes together pretty naturally.
  12. The pro's and cons are not serious enough for wood/synthetic that I'd say they outweigh your personal cosmetic preference. Go with what you think looks good. If you do get a typical synthetic lower get a heat shield.
  13. it's a 1.. seriously. And converting it shortens it and gives you a much nicer trigger.. Plus if you don't convert it people are going to look at you funny since your going to be that guy who was too scared to give it a try when it's really easy. You almost definately won't mess it up and you'll feel better about yourself if you convert it. The ak was designed to be easy to build and easy to disassemble for illiterate conscripts.. You can do it. Just get a drill and a good drill bit.. The hardest part is having a drill bit that will cut through the metal (although on my first try I
  14. got a 47 from them a while back, but ordered it through Atlantic Firearms (who were great to deal with but seem to have dropped all of lancaster's aks except the pistol).. I've heard horrible things about ordering directly from lancaster.. also heard their recent "rough riders" are TERRIBLE quality. Couple have been reported to come apart when fired. Love my lancaster but will not do business with them again. edit: actually it looks like Atlantic arms still may have some lancasters but have taken the name out of the item description.. There are a few rifles that I seem to remember b
  15. it's cz52grips.com (hopefully that doesn't count as a link since it's the name of the store) 35$.. Thought it was a good deal! They have a few styles and every now and then update their multicolor- they seem to only make one per multicolor pattern but I liked the solid better so it wasn't an issue. Really like mine. I ordered black but in most lights it looks plum.. But wound up liking it so I didn't even mention it to them. edit: oh and shippings free I think edit: Second and much later edit, wanted to put a better picture up. Plum colors more obvious on this one
  16. hand size might be why I like it was well.. plus the grips I have. I'm also 6'4 but have longer hands then my 6'5 brother. Maybe that has something to do with why I like it so much. My thumb reaches the slide release and my finger tips actually extend past the textured part on the grip (my middle finger tip ends right where the U band to hold the grip on starts when gripped for shooting.)
  17. Guess I need to try tula (been using german surplus, 147 grain, probably the same stuff) Tried the south african stuff?
  18. love my cz52. I don't find recoil to be a problem whatsoever. Have you shot one? I love everything about it, from the looks, to the funciton, to the simplicity on tear down.. great pistol (I do not use stock grip, or firing pin though. Didn't mind them but changed them anyway after my first range trip. Also like the TT33s, in fact I plan on ordering a m57 for my dad as soon as I find a cheaper FFL.
  19. Havn't done it myself, but plenty of times I've showed up to the range and my friends have been tryng to trade/sell the wrong gauge ammo they bought.. common problem for sure
  20. WINNER! WINNER! CHICKEN DINNER! THANK you for an accurate and concise description... I wish I would have said it as well! Shit, am I boot licking sheep now?
  21. Gonna second the headaches from the SAIGAS BEING BANNED. BUY SAIGAS NOW. ATF RULING OUT. ATF RULING COMING. HIGH CAPACITY MAG BANNED. SAIGAS BEING BANNED. BUY SAIGAS NOW. I HEARD THERE WERE THE LAST SAIGAS IN STOCK HERE. SAIGAS BEING BANNED. ATF RULING OUT. I almost wonder if the ATF just wanted to annoy the gun forums.
  22. First off, this is NOT a free speach forum. It's a gun forum of like minded enthusiasts, go be an idiot elsewhere. Second I don't think classy was banned because he's a liberal, he was banned for deriding anyone with a different opinion, stirring, making ridiculous claims (like Giffords killed by right wing nut job!) and then defending his ridiculous assumptions as rational even when disproved while hypocritically argueing that other people didn't have enough facts to be talking on other issues or were misinformed, incapable of thinking, and just following a herd. Made BS accounts to neg b
