  1. I don't have a vice, unfortunately. I may need to recruit a friend that does. I got the front sight on and mostly lined up pretty easily. The rear one is not going so smoothly though. I stabilized the gun on a workbench (without clamp or vice) and used a punch to try to get the rear sight out. With repeated bashings using increasingly large hammers I think I moved it about 1/8". Maybe less. I definitely marred up the side I was beating on. I hope the Kreb's goes in easier that the stock sight comes out.
  2. I finally bought some Kreb's Custom sights because they seemed like the best solution to me. But of course they don't come with any instructions. I've searched these boards for information about installing them with a little success. But I'd like to get some feedback from people that have already done it. From what I can tell it's best to put the front sight on first so it can be lined up. Then the rear sight needs to be drifted out and the new one drifted in. From what I've read, the drifting requires hitting the thing harder than you would expect. Should I clamp the gun down whi
  3. This may be a stupid question but... does the manual BHO still work with one of these beauties installed? I never cease to be amazed by the level of ingenuity found on this forum. Izhmash should hire some of you guys.
  4. I'm the Nathan that snuck in a pm. It looks like I just barely made it. No need to count me twice.
  5. I too am in California. I got my Saiga-12 pre-converted and CA legal from Atlantic Firearms. The laws here are weird, confusing, and not particularly intuitive. I found this website very helpful (http://gunwiki.net/Gunwiki/LegalCalifornia). As you probably already know, no folding stock at all and some sort of bullet button will probably be necessary unless you don't want anything fun on it. You can find 10-round AGP mags right here on Saiga-12.com for a steal (especially if you buy 4+). I use them and have been nothing but happy with them.
  6. I gotta say, I'm really looking forward to this. Do you have any estimate on the pricing?
  7. Will these be available for the extended top rail or just the quad rail?
  8. I'm also interested in this topic. Can anyone comment on his second question: how difficult is it to install the quad-rail? I suspect there's a guide somewhere but us noobs don't know where to look.
  9. I don't mean to be the voice of reason here, but that Reuters article is talking about gun exports. It does not mention anything about domestic sales. And the second article is an editorial: just some guy's opinion. The Supreme Court very recently (District of Columbia v. Heller) affirmed the 2nd Amendment right to have and bear arms was an individual right, a step no prior Supreme Court was willing to take. What's more, they look poised to assert that the protections granted by the 2nd Amendment cannot be abridged by the states (McDonald v. City of Chicago). The Assault weapons ban was a
  10. I looked around for a Saiga 12 in the bay area myself and had some trouble locating one. Bullseye in San Rafeal does carry them from time to time but hasn't had them in stock lately. I eventually ordered one from Atlantic Firearms -- they have an extensive CA legal section, including a full conversion CA legal Saiga 12. Then I found another problem. Some of the gun stores in the bay area are taking a principled stand against assault weapons in general and Saigas in particular. Both the Old West Gun Room in El Cerrito and Irvington Arms in Fremont refused to receive a Saiga 12. Bullsey
