  1. Define need. It goes bang every time without any conversion. If you bought it for what it is, you'll be happy. However, if you want high-capacity magazines or a proper pistol grip then you need to convert it. This means reducing the foreign part count to 10 out of a total of 14 legally defined parts - but magazines count as three parts and a fire control group is also three parts so it's actually very easy to get it down to 10 foreign legally defined parts. A pistol grip and a new stock are also one legal part each. If this is confusing, use this handy calculator. http://gunwiki.net/Gu
  2. Have fun with the conversion and try not to whack your fingers after you grind the rivets and start punching them out. Ouch! Also, support your rifle properly when you do hammer on it so nothing gets bent - not that these things are easy to bend. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XU96VbnSoTc&feature=related
  3. I don't have a MIG welder. How else can you add material to a magazine lug? I could try JB weld or a blob of silver solder to build it up...
  4. They were recently "on sale" in SW Florida for $430 - down from $629! It also seems like most brick and mortar gun stores don't have them. Something about Russian business practices...
  5. Hmm. Well, I really want metal magazines and they're $12.99 a piece plus s&h - so I'll order twice as many as I really need and then see if the half that don't always work can be filed to work! Dinzag bullet guides work best? I've got a rifle that left the factory in September 2010 with a round trunnion, if that matters.
  6. Interesting. I'd been told it's all the cheap imported ammo that gives the AK a bad reputation for accuracy and I guess that's true. I also think it's that most people don't bother to figure out how to scope their 7.62x39 Saigas/SGLs. The bullet will always have the rainbow trajectory, but a fellow could overcome that with skill. How far is moderate? A 300 yard hog-destroying coyote-blasting AK would be the cat's pajamas. I bet the hard limiting factor will be the range at which the bullets just don't have the velocity to expand.
  7. BEES. Definitely bees. Also, the American people and salmonella.
  8. With a 5.45! I suddenly want to build a Tantal clone too. So many calibers, so little time...
  9. Impressive, but HDPS is out of stock for almost everything on their website - including the hinges and stocks. They'll sell you a 2 1/2 ton military truck though I think I'll go with an ACE folder.

    Best FCG?

Never mind whether it's a good idea, but what modifications do you have to do to fit an RSA trigger into a .223 Saiga? A standard conversion will do. Thanks.

  12. ACE has some M4 and "SOCOM" style retractable AND side folding stocks that they say require no modification to the receiver. http://riflestocks.com/AKStampedNoMods.htm Ugly, but I like the features list. Has anyone held one of these things? My thinking is that it's worth the $165 if it doesn't wiggle. Wiggly stocks irritate me. I've had some bad experiences with "cool" stocks on other weapons that wound up lock-tited into one and only one position forever. Might as well get some nice dark red wooden furniture instead so at least it'll look right for an AK. The important part i
  13. How long is a 16 inch Saiga 308 with a folding stock anyway? If it's close to the length of a Kel-Tec RFB when folded and 1/3 the cost then I might be sold. I think it would be neat to have a .308 that fits in a backpack when it's not needed, and that folds up so you can use it in tight spaces or dense brush if you have to. Also, can you convert one yourself and just slap on any old AK folder? Even the underfolders?
