  1. Mancat I do understand that but it is not very clear what and which components are interchangeable between the AK platforms. Example the AKM hammer differs in design from one in a AK-74M or AK-100 series. They will work but one will produce more drag and friction on the carrier than the other. Also the sear hook on the AKM is taller by approximately .150" this is quite a big difference but mawill not affect any performance other than drag the carrier when the hammer is engaging the sear hook but no difference will be seen or felt while the disconnector and hammer are engaged after firing. .223 Fail

Sounds more like bullet guide misalignment or excessive fileing of the mag catch. I have the same mags and an early dinzag bullet guide and I have shot just about any bullet type as well as bullet weight. I'd bet the bullet guide is just a smidgen too far to the right of the receiver forcing the cartridges low left. It can be remedied by carefully opening up the bullet guide rivet opening and hole and sliding it over just a touch. Also if your using a screw to hold the bullet guide make sure it hasn't walked loose from firing blue loctite can be your best friend when it comes to preventing
  3. Chances are it will be either export or left in a prototype phase. With Putin in charge there is a chance that the defense ministry may make a small purchase for special forces.
  4. Magazine curvature is different but they will lock up the same as long as you trim the shelves on the mag and shorten the interdiction tab. As far as feeding its hit and miss my Saiga will feed from a partially loaded AK-74M mag but will have difficulty when loaded up beyond 13rounds. Changing the follower could help but the internal mag width is slightly larger on the AK-74M mags.
  5. The 5.45 barrel chamber end is 22mm but as far as gas block and front sight block they should spec the same as any AK-100 or AK-74M. Unless you have a .591" diameter barrel(heavy .223 barrel) they should fit up fine.
  6. Well as it turns out the Saiga .223 is actually a AK-103 receiver and trunion. Yes I just smacked the hornets nest here but hear me out. I'm currently building a heavy barreled AK-47 with a milled receiver and I've come up with a lot of info about the AK. First off the differences of the AK-74 and AK-47 are obvious but the differences of the AK-100 series compared to the AK-74M are not as obvious. A typical AK-74M and AK-100 series share carriers as well as bolt dimensions(aside form caliber differences). The receivers are also the same with the exception of the front trunion. The spec is a
  7. Any others? I've got one good bolt but I would like another.
  8. Just like the topic says does any one know of any that exist. From What I read this is an option http://www.k-var.com/shop/ak-101s_extractor-spring.html?page=1. Any one have any experience or knowledge if they can be interchanged?

    Case dent

Here is the wear caused by the added upward pressure of the Arsenal trigger group. As you can see the underside of the ejector has been rubbed and the paint and some of the material has been removed.

The taller sear hook is the Arsenal and the shorter is the Saiga factory sear hook with the Arsenal disconnecter attached. On the left is the Arsenal and on the right the Saiga with the Arsenal disconnecter installed.

I need another factory trigger/disconnecter, the hammer is not the problem. The problem is from the Arsenal sear being over .125" way too tall and allowing the factory or Arsenal hammer to sit way too high making it place upward tension on the bolt carrier and bolt. Unless someone with a 100% factory unaltered Saiga can show me case dents then I am 99% sure the dents are due to aftermarket trigger components.

Well I may have finally hit the nail in the head but I need some input. My Saiga has been converted and the Arsenal Single Stage Trigger was used for the trigger assembly. Now the other thing which I will try to photograph is the wear on the the ejector. I believe the trigger altered the bolts rearward travel from straight back to straight back then up over the hammer face while moving to the rear. My theory for the case dent was confirmed when I lined up the original trigger/disconnecter with the Arsenal trigger/disconnecter I found the Arsenal was close to an 1/8" or more taller than th
  13. When I got my first Saiga, I wondered about the purpose of all the holes in the tube container. I had a hunch that the AK was supposed to be pretty self-contained, and I figured the holes were purposeful, but it wasn't intuitive for me. Needed a video like this to fully spell it out. Later when I got an Arsenal and I could store the handy tube in the buttstock, it occurred to me that the AK is absolutely awesome -- a MacGyver gun. It probably won't ever be quite as practical as my shotgun for home defense, or my subcompact for concealed carry, but I can definitely see why it's a true re
  14. Usually the Saiga kiss does not appear until a few hundred rounds of ammo are shot. It took mine close to 300 for it to start and close to 500 for severely dented cases (brass bananas). Working on my modification to correct that little issue.

Well here is the update. 45% of my brass was salvageable. 14 out of 31 pieces of brass are ok to reload. It seems my next step will be the final step. I will have to open up the ejection port on the dust cover even more. I will post a picture of the next alteration to the dust cover. Also the 15% stronger spring is a big increase my groups shifted over 6" higher than what they used to be. 5.56 loads seem to cycle much easier compared to the heavy hit I normally feel on my buffer. It seems there is a velocity increase with all ammo no chronograph data to support it yet but I will try to get
