  1. So I did it! I would post pics, but I can't here yet... :/ Anyway, I used a cutting wheel with the dremel, and It was super easy. I have a new found love for that wheel. I cut them half way, then cleaved them off with a chisel so it would be tapered down, and then I touched up the paint with some enamel that matches the factory finish.
  2. Yup, already have the the bolt on retainer. I just want it to stop catching on my hands and such. I was meaning remove the excess by the way, not the whole pin.
  3. Hey, I'm doing the finishing touches on my conversion and I was wondering what method I should use to remove the extended gas block pin that holds the factory hand guard. I was thinking about dremeling it down and then using files to finish it up. Is this a good idea? Thanks in advance.
  4. Here is my latest pic of my rifle. It's not done, I know, but give a man some time. The next thing to do will be to install a cheapish (yes, I am....) bullet guide. And then after that a new gas tube and a LHG retainer. Also, since I'm planning on a nice new handguard set, I had some fun and put a strip of rail on the stock handguard. It, combined with the rail covers, enlarges the grip and makes the rifle more comfertable to hold and shoot. I plan on getting a stubby TAPCO grip to put on there for a sort of improvised AFG.
  5. I'm sorry, to the mods, could you close/delete this thread. I've found an almost identical one in another section of the site. Sorry about not looking harder before I posted. :/
  6. Hey guys, I'm getting ready to convert (or restore ) my Saiga in 7.62x39, and I was wondering what type of paint, for a lack of a better term, I should use on the bottom of the receiver that is underneath the trigger plate. I'm on a tightish budget so if there is something that will work in the stead of fancier stuff that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.
  7. I was not thinking about selling, I was just making sure I could recoup my losses if I needed to.
  8. I don't know if this is where this belongs, but I was wondering how much I could sell a converted Saiga rifle for. I've looked in various places, but am unable to find a good way to see how much a converted Saiga would sell for. I assume (You know what that means ) that in converting I am increasing the rifles value beyond the cost of material. Let's assume that I do a basic conversion with Tapco trigger and stock set. Thanks in advance, and please move if there is a better place for this to go.
  9. This is one of the best tutorials I've found, anywhere. Great job mate.
  10. Ok, Thanks guys. I had just heard about it being used in this fashion, but I'm glad I came here before attempting to do it.
  11. Hey guys, I'm going to do a conversion on either a 5.45 or 7.62 rifle in the near future (I haven't decided which one yet) and was wanting to put an AK 74 style muzzle brake on it. Now, I know about shaving the barrel shroud of, getting a thread bit, and threading it, but I was wondering if I could just JB weld it onto the barrel, and if so are there any muzzle brakes designed to do this? That's only if it is a good idea. If it's going to fly off after a few rounds I'll just thread the darn thing, but if it can stand up to some light shooting I may do it. Thanks in advance.
  12. Thanks guys. So I think I'm defently going to own both then at some point. Again, thanks for all the advice and help, you guys are great.
  13. I kind of like the scratchy look. But that might just be me
  14. So, does anyone object to me buying a WASR now and a Saiga later? I'd almost like to keep the Saiga stock and have the WASR for the militarism.
  15. Ok, these are great responses, does anyone have any opinions on the WASR that I should hear?
