It does really look good like that without fasteners.
I chased my block's hole. The tap that cut my threads got tossed as soon as they finished mine!
-
yes. buddy of mine has one like you describe. I actually like the older style better myself, but this new one seems to be more desirable because it looks more like the russian. theres plenty of room for your thumb to release a mag with either.

Did you mill it from that solid block?? That looks damn good man
yes sir. 7075 billet.
thanks for the kind words.

sight height was the focus for these. i wanted them as low as possible for the cheek weld. these sit 0.320" above the sight plane. that will provide an absolute cowitness when I install a T1 micro on there.
so to answer your question:
AKs have never been a proper cheek weld platform for me. the front half of my cheek sits on the receiver/top cover and this shotgun is no different.
I plan to address that on this shotgun with a cheekpad and a buttpad.
that said, as it sits now, is very usable with no neck strain. i just want the sights to line up for me without thinking about them when i shoulder the weapon.
im waiting for my buddy to get his done so I can try his Tormix stock and see if its more comfortable for me than a standard stock. Itd have to be real comfy for me to cut my tang.

Damn fine setup! Did your righty bolt carrier correction workout? How does she shoot now?
thanks. the righty-ness got straightened out; need to take some pics.
gotta go shoot to find out out how, but she racks real smooth. it was terrible before.
shoots fine now. cycles everything I can find.

that's my upper handguard. one of the early thoughts was a rail on top of the gas tube would allow me an easy way to get some insulation between my hand and the hot gas tube. I was leaning toward a vented heat shield for a while...
thanks.

the receiver is blasted and sprayed with K-Phos; it's a cold parkerizing. when i'm done with it, i'll strip the factory paint that is left and coat the whole gun.
that's actually a fastener i used to serve as a trigger blade for the Izhmash sear. it's temporary. once i get the gun cycling with the Izhmash FCG, I'll leave the gas ports alone.
if any issue arise from installing a different FCG, I'll address the FCG to resolve them.

yep. this way adds 1/8" to the profile. i left that much for the fasteners to bite.
-
no, i didn't touch the gas block. the hole was nice and round.
-
What kind of foregrip is this? It's exactly what I have been looking for: just 1 rail only on top!
Arsenal RPK style. K-VAR has it and some others too.
The rail is a separate piece from E-TAC/GO GUN that is out of business for some time now.
MAA still has less than a handful left.

yeah, made the rail. 6061 aluminum to match the top rail I used.

no, just left the bead in there and milled it flat.

i explain it all in this thread:

I ended up like your other shotty with the final lug flush with the block. Half a space or so at the rear. Fits a VFG exactly.
