  1. The ammo that is giving me trouble since my conversion is Federal Target Load. 1 oz. shot, #8 shot, 2 3/4", 3 dram EQ. F112 (whatever that is). As I said, the Federal Hi brass I was shooting at the bowling pins was #4 shot. They ran 25 for 25 no failures. When I get back from vacation I will look into some polishing and possibly profiling.

    Gun stock

I recently converted my S12. I got the std. Warsaw length AK stock. I am thinking I might rather have the six position tactical stock , the type sold by Phoenix Technologies. My only concern is these stocks incorporate the recoil reduction feature. Isn't this likely to cause cycling problems, especially with the cheapo low brass shells?
  3. \ Kind of looks like a cutting wheel. When you talk of polishing the rails are you referring to the tops of the rails?
  4. Took my newly converted S12 to the gun club this morning to kill some bowling pins. I was a bit anxious because in back yard try out, had a few FTEs using lower power cheapo shells. Took it to the club with a box of high brass shells and ran successful 25 out of 25. I'll worry about the lower power FTEs later. Maybe it will get better as it's broken in, or adjusting the Auto Plug or if nothing else, re-profile the new hammer. I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning. Dasvidaniya
  5. Having a bit of a FTE problem with cheapo lo brass rounds. Seems to run perfectly with hotter rounds. I'm going to try it with some Hi brass rounds. If these work OK I'll work out the problem with the lo brass stuff later. Maybe take a look at profiling my new hammer.
  6. Well, I have run about 20-25 rounds through it. Think I might run a few more today before the debut.
  7. Well, Ivan The Terrible makes his debut Sunday. Gonna shoot some bowling pins and show off my conversion job at the gun club. Hopefully it will run well.
  8. I like my Tac Auto Plug.
  9. Sorry about the Indian movie thing. I googled the word dasvidaniya just to make sure of the spelling. I carelessly copied it and pasted it without realizing it was a link. Duh, my bad. I feel kind of dumb.
  10. dasvidaniya is Russian for "Until we meet again" No plans for a muzzle device.
  11. It's the upgrade choice with the CSS conversion kit #1. It's the Hogue grip. That little divot trick works great. Now my only problem is the Tapco stock doesn't quite seat all the way in the back of the receiver. I'm afraid with the repeated shocks shooting the gun it will tear the screw holes out of the plastic. Trying to think of a work around this.
  12. Interested in safety lever. How do I tell if I have an IZ-433?
  13. It shoots perfect. Didn't have to do any profiling. Only minor mistake was I ground a bit too much off of the safety lever and it now goes up a bit higher than it should in the "safe" position. I can probably live with it, or maybe I'll replace the safety lever later. No big deal. Very happy with the result. Update: Fixed my safety issue. Drilled a very small "divot" right on the score where the safety rides. In "clicks" right into place exactly where it should. Problem solved.
  14. OK, top pic is a "before. Bottom is after conversion. Dasvidaniya
  15. I would say it wasn't quite as easy as some say, but I'm glad I did it. Before/after pics will follow.
  16. Well, my conversion is finished, more or less. No, it wasn't quite as easy as some of the videos said, but it was doable. I didn't notch the BHO lever the way Rand pictured it here (didn't see the post until I was done). I notched it above the little valley like I saw in a couple of other videos. Seems to work OK. I kind of notched it where his pic shows the spring sitting, Hopefully that will work out OK. I used the axis pin retention plate rather than the shepherds hook. I think I had more trouble getting it in along with the safety than the BHO spring, although that was tough too. I used th
  17. Thanks Jack. By the way, I'm using your Performance Power Mainspring in my build.
  18. I am in process of converting my Saiga 12. I see where Loctite blue is mentioned. I have a product I used when I worked at GE testing jet engines, it's called VibraTite. I am planning to use this on the screws. I never once saw Vibratite fail when I used it at work. Is this a bad idea?
  19. Got my gun completely stripped and the bare metal on the bottom of the receiver painted. I am planning to finish the project tomorrow. The only thing I am just slightly fuzzy about it the little notch I am supposed to put in the BHO lever for the short arm of the spring to sit in. The new spring came from CSS with the "hook" already in it. I don't know why they didn't also put the notch in too. It's funny, I have 3 different UTube videos showing the conversion and each one, though it talks about this notch, either the guy's hand blocks the view when he's putting it in or the lighting is awful
  20. Got my box 'o parts from Carolina Shooters Supply today. Have watched videos from Carolina Shooters Supply, RisArms and Poison Stinger over and over and feel very confident. Can't wait to get started. I want to thank all the members that encouraged me to go ahead with this conversion. Will update.
  21. Well, my parts have been shipped. Took advantage of the 10% discount for Forum members. I can't wait to get started.
  22. How can I change the header for this post? I need to add the word "convert" after ordered parts to.
  23. Placed order with CSS for parts to convert. I'm sure wifey will be thrilled. It's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.
