  1. Some days I love the look of black polmer and the next day.. that wood grain sure looks good on those! Couple follow-up questions for you all. Sheik: What is a $3 roll-your-own bullet ramp? RPG has them? In case I buy another Saiga and go a different route with magazines. Swon: I would have preferred to weld up mine but as I don't weld and couldn't find anyone I went with allen screws to bolt up the trigger guard and fill in any open holdes. Post a pic of yours after welding if you could. If it looks way too clean I might hafta redo. $12 retainer!? Ok- they were worth it!
  2. You can legally do a pistol grip conversion if you add "X" number of US made parts to your Saiga. Sheik has an excellent webpage to show you how and Swon has some great info on this site as well. Keep reading and welcome aboard.
  3. Hi, I might try a red dot scope on this rifle. I haven't tried one yet and I prefer a large field of view with my other rifles. I imagine it would help with quick targeting. I'm assuming..like everything..you get what you pay for in the red dot scope category. I've seen the price range from 1000 down to 19.95. I imagine the 19.95 scope would be fine on a slingshot Tell me if you find one you like. I would like a ret dot in a 2x if they make such a thing.
  4. Hi, To remove the butt stock I removed 2 screws and then tapped the grip area with a soft hammer. The forearm slides forward and off after removing the screw on the bottom near the receiver.
  5. Thank You Swon and Sheik! With the help from both of you and your pictures and detailed instructions I was able to locate and purchase the parts I needed and the courage to change the looks and function of my Saiga into a something more pleasing to myself. I still have some work ahead but it is coming together as fast as the parts arrive and the tools needed are purchased. I wish I new how to weld now! I bolted-up the trigger guard for now and I have some 'detailing' to the receiver to fiqure out. I'm not sure how I will fill the exposed holes and paint up the un-painted surfaces
  6. Yeesh. I have a renewed appreciation for the ergonomics of the current handguards. Thank you, Sheik.
  7. Look'in good! I'm hungry now? I'm still staring at half a pile of parts..while waiting for the rest. I haven't had so much fun 'parting' together a weapon since my 1st 1911. I may hafta go get another after I finish putting this one together. I may hafta go get another IF I'm not careful!
  8. I agree..a picture is worth a thousand words but currently I am digital-less. I can't for the life of me fiqure out how else I would have removed the 2 larger pins and still been able to reuse them. I punched them out from left to right but it distorted the holes in the receiver some and I see that this alignment means everything to the trigger operation. I've been dying to tap them back in and see how well it works but I don't dare til I get my stock and pistol grip in the mail. If anyone can..please post pics of how one SHOULD have remove them properly. For clarity: 4 pins
  9. Well I goofed! I received the trigger components and began the conversion BEFORE I fully understood how the retainer pins were installed. Arg! The trigger guard and the 2 rear most pins came out nicely but the 2 larger front pins fooled me. They appeared as if they easily could be tapped out to the left side. I failed to realize they had an oversized function just inside the receiver and I forced them out...with a smidge of frustration. Now I wondering if I have 180.00 of extra parts or if I can still save my project?
  10. My young son wants me to get one of those! I WANT me to get one of those!! Thanks for the movie.
  11. Swon, I'm alittle confused on how I remove/replace the trigger components. I'm to cut the fat ends off the retaining pins? (opposite side of the safety lever) If this is the case, how will the pins stay in place?
  12. What other option do I have with the Saiga? Have the barrel threaded?
  13. 2 nagging questions I'm wonder about.. I've ordered the trigger components but are extra pins of some type needed or will I be able to re-use the parts that hold it all together. (I need to go get the rifle and look how things are attached) I also ordered the compensator with the press-on adapter but I'm beginning to worry about the install of this one. Haven't located anyone local up to the task and the thought of attempting a "crude" install..well..yikes. I will if I hafta! Any ideas anyone to the "press-on" adapter install or is a send out job?
  14. Hi all, Thanks to you kind folks, I'm gathering info and parts for future conversion ideas but I was wondering if I'm rushing things. I've heard mention of rumors of "bolt-on" 1 piece butt/PG stocks that may be coming down the pike. Probably won't wait here..very compulsive natured and I like to tinker with my firearms. I'm also wishing for a compensator but have not read any posts on the matter. I was looking at the 1 on the AKUSA site that has the un-threaded adapter. Your opinions of the task? Worth the trouble? Tuff installation? When all is said and done and I fe
  15. Hi Sheik, I tried to email you but "failure". I see you purchased it at RPB per your post but which part# is it? I would prefer the same type of stock. Will it bolt right up after moving trigger assembly forward? Thanks ahead~ Ned
  16. That's beautiful Swon! Thanks for going the extra mile to share your conversion process with us. I'm ordering my goodies today and will let you know how I make out. Thanks again and I'll grow you a few targets in the spring (watermellons) IOU~ Ned
  17. Welcome aboard, I had a Russian built Sks awhile back. I could keep a pie-plate sized group at 100 yards which I considered darn good for me with iron sights. The detachable magazine was not very user friendly so I bought a mess of stripper clips and jammed my reloads in from the top. I liked it but didn't keep it long. I was just curious about how the enemy might be armed and how accurate they were. I haven't had a chance to try my Saiga for accuracy yet..just got out for the "glad to meet ya" shooting so far. I sold that rifle over 5 years ago for the same price I just
  18. Which brings up another question I've been wondering about.. if you can only make some modification after adding a certain number of US parts.. just one glance and you can tell if you have required US parts or are we field stripping to check? Devils advocate> I can't legally hunt with a semi-automatic and I'm not planning a crime spree or any civil unrest...just got a few watermellons with my name on 'em.
  19. Looking forward to it. I've never seen a Saiga that has a pistol grip added. Is it on the real secure?
  20. I really never planned on wanting to change anything on this firearm..except finding more than a 10 round magazine BUT after finding this place..well it is cold here and I need to tinker! lol. I guess what is really holding me back is trying to fiqure out what parts work for the Saiga. I want a working compensator too. My links are filling up fast. Please do post those pics if you have time..a picture is worth a thousand... Thanks- you have convinced me to start my parts search. Been meaning to buy a Dremel tool anyway.
  21. S! Swon Looks great! So when can I receive my poster sized, full color graphics and video instructions so I can begin work on mine? I wanna make one of those!
  22. S! Many posts on this subject..look around at this board. Sounds like the legal way is to convert AK mags to fit the Saiga but you must change out parts to end up with a certain amount of US parts in your rifle. You could also look at Ravent25 post about mags made for the Saiga...again you would need to change out parts to meet legal requirements per my understanding of the rules. Good luck.
  23. S! Unless I can get some great directions on some mods I'd like to make to mine( hopefully from some of the folks here that have done some nice looking modifications to theirs) I'll be sending mine here: http://www.ak-103.com/ Checkout some of the movies under "fun stuff"
  24. "The total is 44 pounds for the goods + 7 pounds for shipping = 51 pounds. Estimated delivery time 5-6 working days. Thank you" Thats about 40 a piece and 12 to ship to USA
