  1. Okay - It certainly looks more jagged than a feed ramp and every feed ramp I've ever seen sat square at 6 o'clock. If you guys say this is normal, I will bow to your expertise and accept my own ignorance on the matter
  2. that is a huge problem, I will buy that unsafe rifle from you for 100 bucks. what that is, is a feed ramp. Positioned at 5 oclock?
  3. Finally got a chance to break down the 7.62 I picked up last month. First thing I notice when inspecting the receiver is that the barrel seems to have a big chunk missing out of it right at about 5:00 (see pic). I'm guessing I have a big issue here. Should I address with Classic City Firearms who sold it to me or is this workable? No, I have not attempted to fire it and don't think I will with that issue.
  4. Classic City Firearms had them earlier this week for $450
  5. Hmm - also seems 922r is a little tougher with the rifles. If I have my count right, if I go with a Bulgarian buttstock and AK74 forend and want to use non-US magazines, I'm going to be forced to keep the pistol grip US made and also replace the gas piston. That should get me to 10 including a fcg conversion, right?
  6. Thanks! Great info. So, in that case, would I want to upgrade the AK-74 upper and lower from Ironwoods Designs or would the standard AK-47 upper still fit?
  7. Howdy howdy! I did a Saiga .410 conversion last year. Had a lot of fun with it and learned a lot. Went with a Ace push button folder, SGM tri-trailer, ATI Scorpion grip and few other doodads here and there. I just picked up an unconverted Saiga 7.62x39 and am strongly leaning to doing classic Russian red furniture. As I understand it to use standard AK-47 wood furnigture I either need to replace the gas tube with an AK-47 tube and makde some modifications or use the bolt on retainer from Dinzag, right? I also see the special Saiga furniture at Ironwood Designs here. I like t
  8. Interesting liberty. Next time out, I'll take a shot at a clean piece before I do anything else.
  9. Took my Saiga out yesterday doing some ammo testing. Shot some 3" PDX1 to test it's reliability and was very surprised to learn that at 7 yards the discs did not even penetrate the 3-ply laminate I was using on my target stand. All it did was leave a small indentation. Now, wood is not flesh but still, this seems pretty pathetic in an SD round. See the attached picture for an example. This wasn't a one off - these little round indentations were all there was across the board.
  10. Looking at this now. Could it be that I installed the bolt on too closs to the receiver? Do I need to leave a bit more of gap? Thanks Tony. As you can see I came to the same conclusion as you were posting. Appreciate it!
  11. I have a bolt on Tromix charging handle. Every once in a while during cycling it gets hung up on the dust cover, hard enough that I have to give it a good whack with a mallet (or a rock) to get it loose. This would seem to be partially due to the bolt being cycled too strongly but if my next gas setting is too little and this one causes this to happen, there's no happy middle ground. ANybody experience this?
  12. Any thoughts on using Flitz instead of jeweler's rouge?
  13. Any thoughts on using this stuff on the rails? http://www.amazon.co...35555112&sr=8-3
  14. Keep it's updated. I'd be interested to know your direct ppr when you find a good reliable load
  15. Had a local gunsmith tell me that the bolt on the .410 does not suffer the same "issues" as the S12 and that polishing will have some small incremental benefit but no re-shaping is necessary. True?
