  1. Wow, this guy never quits. 1) I have put at least 10,000 rounds through my Ruger 10/22 over the last 10 years and I'm sure i'll but twice that many through my AR. Plus, trigger issues asside, I had more jams, misfeeds and stovepipes with that AK in one month than I've had with any other rifle I've ever had. 2) How can you tell which rifles are inferior? They cost less, what does that say about the Saiga? 3) Seems like the only education I am hearing is what a piece of crap the AK is straight out of the factory. 4) If I had a 10 year old AK I could understand that it might need
  2. Wow, talk about thick headed. You don't think I asked around about the AK before I bought it? I didn't hear a single negetive thing from anyone. And I bet if I had asked this forum before I purchased it everyone would have raved how awesome it is. Yes, I am an engineer and since I put out quality work I expect the same from others. Hey man, I have thick skin and I don't care what anybody says, BUT: I havenot retracted anything I have said. I stand behind everything I say/type.
  3. Don't worry, after seeing the caliber of people like this on this forum I won't be coming back. You have fun with your yawn-inspiring 'build' there post-a. Good luck defending your property against a hoard of looters or zombies when the shit hits the fan with a gun you have to continuously tinker with. And when you're ready to own a firearm you can trust your life with jump aboard the AR wagon. For everyone else, I didn't mean to put anyone down. I was just ranting because it irks me when I see people like post-a here who think a simple AK conversion qualifies him as a master gunsmith wh
  4. *insert digital pimp slap here*
  5. Not trying to poke fun at you post-a but I guess so. *blah, blah, blah I can't/won't work on my rifle* Poke fun at me?! I'm the one who's been holding back. Please.. I can barely do so anymore. Don't force me to point out the various sad/stupid things you did regarding that .223; except the trade, which you (monetarily) did well on. What on earth are you talking about? Upgrading the butt stock and foregrip I wouldn't call sad/stupid. I'm not looking for anyone's approval regarding my modifications. Personally I think it looks bad-ass. before and after *sigh* I will
  6. I just find it funny that there are so many passionate people on here obsessing about a firearm that is currently being produced with known issues and defects. Also, I never said my AK was a 'build', I did cosmetic 'modifications' only. I am a mechanical engineer at a technology and equipment fabrication company. Which means 1) I expect a high level of quality out of the products I buy 2) I am not afraid to get my hands dirty, I just restored/fixed my Dad's old Winchester lever action .22 mag, this gun is 40 yrs old which gives it reason to malfunction. That Saiga was brand new. I wish

  8. Good pointe Dane, if zombie twinkies start overwhenlming my property i'll make sure to have an AK.
  9. Not trying to poke fun at you post-a but I guess so. My expectations are that the rifle will work reliably out of the box with minimal maintenance. It's great that AK's are easy to work on but if you have to work on them all the time it ends up not being worth it. Besides, I need a primary rifle that I can trust with my life and that AK was not doing the job.
  10. Yeah I could have and I have the tools to do it but I felt that being a brand new rifle it shouldn't have any problems and it bugged me how terrible RAAC's customer service was so I just said f**k it. Cadiz Gun Works has always done warranty work for RAAC. You should've done a little research before simply giving up. That guy you traded it to probably had it fixed in ~30 sec, properly converted restored in another ~40 min, and whatever gunsmithing experience he had was not required. Since it sounds like you're unwilling/unable to do basic work on your guns, you're probably better

  12. Thats cool. Wanna sell it? Hmm, I really like this one. I'm not really looking to get rid of it but if the price were right you never know.
  13. Thanks Dad. I wish I had a better picture but this is the AR-15 I now have.
  14. Extremely happy. That Armalite is a nail driver, hasn't had any issues and is very clean. I took it hog hunting a few weeks ago and the thing was a beast! Didn't kill any hogs though, on account of not seeing any. I did have fun bump firing it though.
  15. Sorry, the Saiga is gone. I traded it to a gunsmith for an Armalite M15A2
  16. Shoots accurately and flawlessly, last weekend I was splitting business cards at 50 yards. I've never had a jam, FTF or stovepipe. I can shoot this all day long. I owned the Saiga for less than a month before I started having the trigger reset issue. I was only able to get in touch with RAAC's answering service. Even after leaving messages and emails I never got a response from them.
  17. Looks just like the 10/22, receiver is a little bigger
  18. Well folks, after repeated calls to RAAC and continued frustrations with my Saiga 223 I've decided to sell it. I love the AK platform and may some day buy another one but after this experience I'm going to have to switch to something more reliable. Maybe I got a lemon, I've got a friend who's AK has never had an issue so i'm not condeming the whole product line. I think I'll just stick with my AR-15 and Ruger 10/22 mag for now. Thank you to everyone that has tried to help me out over the last few months.
  19. Soldiers used AK's to split power lines during the war. Seems accurate enough. I was grouping about 1/2" at 100 yds with my 4x scope.
  20. I actually use both. I can tell the surefire fits tighter but so far I haven't had any issues with either. I have heard that the ProMags have a little piece that chip off but mine are still in one piece.
  21. I've got the UTG Quad Rail on mine. And I LOVE IT!!
  22. This one should work. I have a hi capacity surefire and it works fine without any modifications. http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/saiga-223-polymer-5-rd-mag-sgm-tactical-surefire-p-499.html
  23. This is the one i bought and I have been very happy with it. http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=ak+side+mount+rail&hl=en&cid=4945157094305383214&ei=0k9zT9WSHMKisAf27MyHBg&ved=0CEQQ8wIwBA#p

I have a Surefire magazine and it comes with instructions to modify it. It has ribs around it where you cut right beneath them and can then move the bottom plate up to slide over the rib. Here's one you can buy though that has already been converted. http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/saiga-223-polymer-5-rd-mag-sgm-tactical-surefire-p-499.html
  25. Unfortunately the Saiga 223 does not have a threaded barrel. You have two options. 1) you can thread the barrel yourself or have it done. 2) I have seen some slip on ones that use the front site to clamp around.
