  1. Y'know, the new 20-round black polymer ProMags (at least the 7.62 ones) lock up and feed just fine, without any modificaiton, in my unconverted Saiga. Those are worth a shot.
  2. You need the longer legs when you're using a 30 rounder in the Saiga... otherwise the bottom of the mag is hitting the ground.
  3. Oh, poop. It does appear that I hath screweth up. ...Yep, on further inspection, after filing down that burr and persuading the mount all the way forward with a rubber mallet, it looks like: - not only were the bracket and rail in need of some de-burring, - I didn't have it all the way forward (because it wouldn't go all the way forward by hand), - AND I'd bent the scope mounting brackets by tightening them when they weren't on all the way. FIXED! De-burred and tapped both of my mounts (POSP and Belarussian MTK-83 rail) all the way on with a rubber mallet to de-be
  4. It's not an incomplete contact problem, it's that part of the bracket has been scraped away (probably by recoil slamming it into the rifle's dovetail bracket). And now it won't stay in position because the scraped area jumps the corner on the rifle under recoil. Here's a top view diagram. Red is the scope bracket, blue is the rifle's dovetail bracket.
  5. I snagged a fixed-power 4x24 PSOP last October ahead of deer season, for my Saiga. It's pure sexeh. I love that thing. But, recently I noticed it wasn't holding zero, and part of the dovetail bracket on the scope has been peened or scraped down. It's causing the scope to push out and then past the 'corner' on the rifle's rail that is supposed to prevent it from moving farther forward. That throws the horizontal alignment off - way off. The optic itself is like new and I love it, but the mounting bracket won't stay in place reliably anymore because of this. I tightened the scope in plac
  6. Has anybody had problems with the metal on the scope's dovetail bracket getting peened down by recoil and making it hard to mount the scope securely? Mine is impossible to zero now. Got it from Kalinka. The optic itself is incredible, but the dovetail bracket is shot...
  7. Careful buying from Ammoman. His credibility has a checkered history, and his industry partner status / banner was pulled from Ar15.com when he tried to screw somebody over with false advertising. Some people have had perfectly fine experiences with him, others spit after speaking his name. Caveat Emptor.
  8. This one... ...here: http://www.copesdist.com/ak47.htm (about 5/8ths of the way down, next to the foreign made Saiga pistol grip / folding stock combo we all know so well) Crap, it's made in Russia. Can't use it.
  9. PERFECT! Then I don't have to make one! Thank you for pointing me to that. I've got a replacement hammer and gas piston and US made mags that I've modded to Saiga-feed--that, however, is the crown jewel. One last question--does that 'Tactical Saiga Handguard' I've seen floating around the net only fit the Saiga 12, or does it fit the other carbines as well...?
  10. How'd you get the FCG (besides the hammer) out and the bottom plate that goes over the pistol grip hole off without drilling...?
  11. Once more, with feeling! I don't have the time, the tools, the money for the tools, the space for the tools, or even the desire to do that kind of alteration. Thanks for playing! I really should set that to music. My goal isn't to hit some halfway zone--my goal is reversibility. The hammer is replaceable without drilling anything; so is the gas piston, foregrip, and buttstock. That's four right there, and enough to make the rifle 922r compliant in any form. In CAD-ing out this buttstock adapter, I also want to give others in my situation--I.E, those without access to t
  12. Remember further up where I said that kind of reply wasn't helpful? ...yeah. I don't have the time, the tools, the money for the tools, the space for the tools, or even the desire to do that kind of alteration. Thanks for playing! I've decided to go gas piston, buttstock, foregrip, and swap the hammer (since all of these changes can be restored to the original configuration). I've also got US made pro-mags, just to be on the safe side--but with those first 4, I should even be able to use foreign mags if I decide to.
  13. I understand 922r, vladimir... I was asking about which 922r parts the Saiga included to double-check my thinking. You can stop yelling now. And no, it wouldn't necessarily look something like that. I'm thinking more, say, the attached photochop I just put together (sorry about the quick and dirty painting--it's not up to my usual standard at work). I am not going to drill out rivets, so please stop telling me to "just do it anyway". I don't have the tools, access to the tools, money for the tools, or even space to USE the tools. I also do not want to permanently modify the gun.
  14. Hi. Just registered, and have a question about a Saiga mod that's a bit off the beaten path. I have a 16" 7.62 sporter carbine, and I want to put a pistol grip and a stock on it--but not the normal way. I'm using CAD software to make an adapter that I can attach to the original rear stock trunion; then I can attach a US made AK pistol grip to anAK pistol grip nut that's built into the bottom of the adapter, and an AR-15 style collapsible stock, via AR buffer tube threads at the back of the adapter. It would position the pistol grip correctly to use the factory 'repositioned' trigger,
