Saiga Rifles at an Appleseed Project Shhoting Event?
aresv replied to MaineMarshal's topic in Saiga .223
Well, Appleseed is biased towards shooting with a sling support, but for good reason. Just about any rifle can accept a sling, whether it's the forearm is floated or not. If you show up at an Appleseed with a rifle that's got sling swivel mounts, but no sling, you'll probably have 4 or 5 people offer you a G.I. web sling. I scored a solid dozen of 'em last time I swung by the local Army-Navy store. Buck a piece, FTW. Not to knock unsupported shooting... but if you have a sling you might as well learn to use it. It's good stuff. Besides, earning a rifleman patch with an AK is ba -
Tornado Brushes for 12 gauges
aresv replied to sacsucks's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
The loops of wire on a tornado brush are nice and rounded. I wouldn't worry about scratching unless the wires broke. If you'd rather use something softer that still removes lead like crazy, try chucking a bronze brush in an electric drill. -

Saiga Rifles at an Appleseed Project Shhoting Event?
aresv replied to MaineMarshal's topic in Saiga .223
Appleseed is an excellent program! Can't recommend it highly enough. The idea is to learn practical techniques for accurate shooting without a benchrest or bipod. They teach use of slings for support. You'll be shooting standing, sitting/kneeling, prone, with sling support in all positions if you bring a sling. A Ruger 10/22 makes a very affordable and easy way to earn the rifleman patch. The Appleseeds I've seen have had lots of 10/22's, with AR's being 2nd most common. You can qualify Rifleman on the AQT with a bolt action or commie rifle.... it's just a little harder. The idea -

Must be something unique to Ohio. Appleseed has always been "bring what ya got, run what ya brung." -
Will the Surefire G2 fit?
aresv replied to David Mark's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
Oh, gotcha. Thought you were looking for something to mount onto the picatinny rails, like this: Surefire G2's have a 1.25" bezel and 1" main body. Hope that helps. -

What kind of mount will you use to attach the light to that rail? -
New TOP SNIPER
aresv replied to Bounce12's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
Maj. Plaster's book "The Ultimate Sniper" has a lot of info on effective hides: using a dark sheet and staying well back from the hole or window, concealment, misdirection, getting in and out. Last time I read the book was about 10 years ago when a friend loaned me his copy. Read it cover to cover and learned a lot. 1) Shooting an oval: sounds just like a regular training exercise to me. If it were classified, they wouldn't be talking about it on TV. No magic here, folks. 2) No mention of .338 Lapua: Yeah, what's up with that? IMHO .338 is a valuable middle step between .30 and .5 -
Cheap US wood furniture?
aresv replied to volkov's topic in Conversions and Modifications for the Saiga firearms
What is your time and labor worth? You could order furniture from IWD or BRG3, finish it, and install it, but it's going to cost at least $120 just for the rough unfinished pieces. Or, maybe you could offer your friend a nice Christmas present. There just isn't any cheap US wood furniture. You get what you pay for. Buy once, cry once. Edit: wrong acronym for one of the furniture vendors. -
Here's a vehicle that's neither horse drawn nor an automobile. Even has a nice rifle holder built in.

+1 Azrial! Lose that monkey motion junk and relocate the trigger to where it's supposed to be! If you want an extra nice trigger, try one from Red Star.

Climate Change

But many global warming deniers think the dinosaurs died in Noah's flood. He remembered the mosquitos but overlooked the dinosaurs.. easy mistake to make.. I always was amazed at his scientific sense, speed, and accuracy when he correctly deposited all of the animals in the right habitats throughout the world. Actually my gran is a JW and believes that god put dinosaur bones on the earth just to test our faith.. Go figure. Oh man, those Jehova's Witnesses are so crazy... everybody knows it was the devil who buried dinosaur bones as a trick! -
You could blast through several hundred rounds of buckshot, hoping things will "smooth out"... or you could fix the gun right. Make sure it has enough gas and make sure the internals are not rough. You can DIY if you feel up to pressing off your gas block, or just send it in for warranty work. If your stock S-12 is undergassed, it's a warranty issue.
-
What if you airgapped the gas tube and made sure the head of the gas piston doesn't make any contact while it's inside the gas block? IMHO it's all diminishing returns on a Kalashnikov pattern rifle. The bolt / forward trunnion / barrel interface will still be an issue.

+1 for Eezox. Best rust protection available. For cleaning and lube, though, good old Hoppe's #9 and CLP will serve you just fine. I only use Eezox for storage and final wipedown, not for moving parts. If you can get Eezox in cans rather than spray, it will go a lot further. All it takes is a drop or two.

Which Red Dot?
aresv replied to Irish Gangster's topic in General Discussion - Any topic is welcome here!!!
Try a Konus Pro Atomic. It's an Aimpoint micro knock-off with a 4 MOA dot, and it will even cowitness on an Ultimak rail. -
+1 for the ladder style covers. They stay put and you can trim them to any length needed. If you want something a little wider, try Magpul XTM covers. They lock into place and don't slide either.

Ain't that the truth. Yet even at the small time level (county commissioner, school board, etc) it's nearly impossible to get elected unless you're with one of the two big parties. I wish more people would take the Jesse Ventura approach Maybe if they sacrifice enough goats or pray hard enough to their deity of choice, everything will fix itself. Magical thinking

Go read the best buy post in the Politics board. That's probably it, but Bean didn't reply in that thread, did he? I was surprised at the response from some people over there. Guess calling them "hypocritical pseudo-Christian assholes" cut a little too close to the bone, huh? The politics forum has a bunch of pissed off self-righteous bigots who don't like being made fun of.
