TWGLADF 0
academy here in town just got an ass load of new monarch brass cased copper fmj ammo. i bought afew boxes to test out in my mini 14. i've been at witsend since all the 223 went through the roof! (i only want to put brass cased copper jacket ammo through my mini) winchester white box 40 round VP went from $7 to $10! thats $5 per 20! the new monarch brass cased ammo is only $3.86 per 20 round box! thats excellent for commercial 223! i hope the accuracy is as good as their x39 stuff! or better! monarch is a brand made by barnaul. same shit, different brand name. non magnetic, non corrosive, reloadable(i believe) haven't had a chance to try it yet. ya'll let me know if ya'll get to it before me! TWGLADF 0
tried some out today. didn't get to put it on paper but shot at different mediums to see how it reacted. wet sand and dry sand the round fragmented nicely. seemed super accurate out of my "can't hit the broadside of a barn" mini 14. at about 25 yards 4 holes could be covered with a quarter. this was on a 1/4 inch thick steel pipe. nice clean hole going in and nasty ragged hole coming out. extracted cases only went about 4-6 feet compared to the HOT loaded winchester white box that sent the casings about 20 feet. my conclusions for this short simple test: definately a badass little round worth looking into further, especially for the price. i'll stock up on some more and try to put some on paper. i've never had groups that good out of either of my mini's. TWGLADF 0
even though they are monarch brand made by barnaul, the box states made in serbia. it may be made by prvi partizan, hence the excellent performance.

It probably is then, at least if its coming out of Serbia. I know Wolf is importing new Serbian M193 that is REALLY good(have shot 600 rounds now, my AR's love the stuff). Is the bullet canelured on the Monarch stuff? Sealed primers? Markings on the case head? What company imports "Monarch"? I was under the impression the Monarch name was just a relabeled Barnaul... I know Prvi is producing a 75gr .223 loading, should be on shelves in time for summer!
Unknown Poster 5
I just purchased wolf in .223 for $95 and $105 a 1,000rd case you just have to watch when it goes on sale then buy it.. Edited May 16, 2006 by Unknown Poster

TWGLADF 0
once again tested different rounds in my new saiga 223 wolf----about 3 inch groups at about 75 yards with an occasional flyer here and there. monarch (steel/laquer)----about 1 1/2- 2 inch. monarch (brass)----about 1 inch. this is truly an amazing round for the price! and it has been discovered b/c it's flying off the shelf as fast as they can stock it! inparidel 4
Where can I get "Monarch" or Barnaul ammo? I love Barbnaul, and I have no exerience with Monarch, but, where?
TWGLADF 0
from all the info that i've gathered monarch is barnaul, just a different marketing. if you have an academy sporting goods within driving distance, they will have it. actually i have some monarch/barnaul in 223 that i'm selling. it's the laquered casings though. i'm saving the brass casing for my mini. badman400 3
TWG, this sounds like a good deal and I've been looking to pick up 500-1000 rounds of .223 soon. I just got an email from J&G on some Silver Bear (zinc plated) and Golden Bear (brass plated) casings for $150 & $160 per 1000 respectively. Any comments on this ammo? I'll be shooting it in my Bushmaster M17S, PLR-16, and SU-16C. Edited August 30, 2006 by badman400
TWGLADF 0
golden bear in 223 is BADASS!!!! i recently got 1000 rounds and tried them out yestereday. at 55 yards open sights with my saiga three rounds tore one ragged hole that must have measured about 1/2 or less. drew up another bullseye and the first 2 shots hit right on the cross hair of the target bullseye. this is some badass ammo! it was the 62 grain boat tail hollow points. i figured since all my testing that my saiga shoots 62gr more accurately than 55gr. alot smaller groups. if you can get golden bear DO IT! i've tested silver bear in my x39 and it is wonderful! just haven't tested in 223. i'm thinkin about getting golden bear for my x39 but only soft point is available. i really want hollow point. definately get golden bear in 223 if it's going through an ak platform. my buddy is going to test in his bushmaster for me so i can give report on that soon.
