Recommended Posts

i have been searching this site for instructions on how to convert my .308 for a while now.

i have FBMG 20 rnd. mags.

maybe im stupid but i gave up after 1 1/2 hours and decided to start a thread.

thank you for your time!

bill

that tutorial that i found online is wonderful BUT it doesnt help me with my .308 .

i thought i could do it by following carefully NOPE!.

THE .308 IS DIFFERENT THAN THE .223 AND THE 7.62X39.

i have a bench covered with parts to prove it.

i cannot find a .308 tutorial anywhere

what a bummer.........

this site shows you how, all you need is a drill with cobalt drill bits. The site shows how to convert a .223, the .308 is easier becasue it doest have any rivets holding in the trigger.

You should be finding a lot of info here, but some of it is getting buried.

If you are using the G2 fcg,

Your saftey will need mod or replace.

The bump over the hammer tube will need to be filed down.

The factory 308 disconnector spring will not work. K-var has stock ones.

You will need a grip nut and screw.

The trigger guard is a bitch. I bent mine with a bench vise, and put a hell of a preload on it installing.

Mine is bolted in the rear and held under the mag release by tension.

It's not going anywhere.

Have fun

The Safety Check

There were some questions posed if my retrofit was safe.

The following photos and video should confirm it is.

Others have had a problem of: with the safety on pull the trigger, when they released the safety, the hammer fell on the firing pin.

As you can see from the video. that will not happen on this Saiga.

The surfaces were stoned, then polished to 800 grit.

The trigger has no problem returning under spring pressure.

Questions:

1. Is that the Choate stock? If so, how do you like it? I was planning on using that for my conversion.

2. Is the Saiga .308 magazine catch the same as that of a standard AK? I have a trigger guard rivet jig that I have used for my standard X39 AK builds, so replacing the entire trigger guard with a standard AK unit would probably be just as easy for me as trying to relocate the stock Saiga guard. Have you tried locking a magazine into the well yet (the pictures don't show)?
