kiwigunner 0
Happy new year guys, I hope its a gun filled one, hahahahaha I'm about to buy a new S-308 16" one and my question is, should I buy one with or without a typical russian type muzzel brake? does it help with recoil or is it just extra noise and it wont make any difference for normal shooting with the standard mags? What do you guys use? thanks kiwi
Steve in Allentown, PA 5
I have a very recoil sensitive shooter in my home who simply could not deal with the .308 recoil out of the 16" barrel of the Saiga. I contacted fellow forum member Dinzag who custom threaded a made-in-the-USA, authentic Russian-looking, muzzle brake which I installed on the rifle using a crush washer to correctly orient the brake. It works superbly. Recoil and muzzle lift are substantially reduced and my recoil sensitive shooter now thoroughly enjoys shooting this rifle. In my experience muzzle brakes allow much faster follow-up shots but at the expense of significantly increased decibel levels to the sides and rear of the rifle. Personally, I have come to like muzzle brakes even though I'm not particularly recoil sensitive. Also, I highly recommend Dinzag's products and services.
shaneman153a 39
+1, I installed Dinzag's '74 brake and it made a HUGE difference in recoil and muzzle climb. Really pisses off the yee-haw shooters next to you at the bech too.
buckandaquarterquarterstaff 5
The 308 saiga will not give you a pounding. The easy and cheap solution is a $15 slip on recoil pad, whereas the muzzle brake will set you back much more (either to do it yourself or have someone else do it for you). Why not shoot the thing first and see if you can handle it? chances are you can. My advice is to spend the $'s on mags and once you feel you've got mags/ammo/PG config all covered, then maybe put on a brake if you still feel it offers you something. If you want it for looks, then that's another thing altogether.
Cryptkeeper 0
if i had a choice of getting 1 with a break or without i would get it with it specially if they cost the same
Eugene Onegin 6
If I could get a brake that I like I would go for one, I just don'nt like that AK74 type brake hanging on the front of the rifle .

Eugene Onegin 6
I like the compensator that K-Var sells (part # AK 351) if it could be installed . Edited January 7, 2008 by Eugene Onegin
