decodeddiesel 4
Hello all, I have was wondering what if any issues people have had fitting the Bulgarian ak-74 FSBs to their Saiga .223s? Can anyone who has replaced their Saiga FSB with an AK-74 FSB please post up. I have searched and didn't seem to find anything on it. Thanks!
decodeddiesel 4
Well I picked up my .223 Saiga today, she shoots great! One issue which I already noticed, I got a brand spanking new Saiga and the FSB seems to be staked, not pinned. Can anyone tell m how I would go about removing this staked FSB? Will it just press off?
oldandslow 3
Carefully drill the dimples. If you measure the thickness of the FSB and the thickness of the barrel, divide the difference by 2, then you'll know the depth. I destroyed my FSB, cause, I wasn't paying attention. Later I removed the gas block by drilling the dimples. I then welded the dimple holes and drilled holes for pinning the gas block back on. Duracoated the whole thing. Ordered a new FSB and brake from Rusmilitary.com. Edited August 10, 2008 by oldandslow
vjor 2
Whats up Brother! you got a .223 with dimples FSG and GB ? and want to install a Bulgarian FSB on it? First you have to see if your barrel is heavy barrel or a thing barrel on the rifle get a caliper as the block have to be .004 ID over the OD diameter of the barrel to be press tight on it. And I mean tight. Now if your FSB and GB are dimpled on the barrel and not have any pins on the FSB you may do this http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=21144 to remove the FSB latter on you are going to have to notch the barrel for the pins of the Bulgarian FSB or press the FSB really tight and silver solder in place if you don't want to pin it in place. If you going to remove the GB to install a hand guard retainer you may need a new one too, one thing the GB has a pin running true it as it is the pin that holds the Saiga original hand guard. You can get a Dinzag retainer plate non gunsmith, but how things looks are not the same as a one install the gun smith way. Any way brother it is your choice as it is your gun any way you are going to go with the work on the gun. If you find that the barrel on your gun is heavy barrel you can send the FSB to dinzag to get it ream out the ID on the part to fit the heavy barrel, that will leave the FSB a little bit thin but a lot less work than reducing the barrel diameter to fit the FSB. Good luck on your venture. PS: to make things easy as you press stuff on use Bostik never-seez pure nickel special no copper, makes life a lot easier and it will don't burn until reaches 2400 degrees F, makes pressing stuff on a brease. getitat 609
Hello Anybody know if there would be enough "meat" on one of these '74 model FSB to machine them to fit a S-.39 barrel? I imagine there is a bit of a difference in the OD of the two barrels....I don't know how much, 'cause I don't have a AK-74 to measure, nor do I have the AK-74 FSB to measure it. Just wondering if anybody has tried....... TIA, guido2 in Houston
