If I remember right, if you're using blanks without the adapter, the rounds won't cycle. So it kind of creates the pressure needed to cycle rounds from the mag.

A blank firing device plugs the barrel almost entirely to create enough back pressure so that most the gases get in the port, push the piston and cycle the next round.

Since it plugs most of the barrel hole you can't fire regular rounds with it. It would not be a good idea at all; most certainly it would be your last idea.

It also turns your barrel into a real shithole (when firing blanks).

 

Much more cleaning required after a field exercise where blanks were used.

 

Experience based on the M16 series of weapons I carried in the service. I'm sure it's the same for the AK, but who really cares?
