You NEED a lug or some other rear locking mechanism, not for the stabbing of an object but incase the object you stab happens to twist away from you in trying to avoid your thrust, which is HIGHLY likely to happen. Wouldn't you try to get out of the way of a spear headed your way. It may not crimp the barrel off, but may crimp it enough to cause firing issues you DO NOT want to happen in a hostile situation.
