Tim808 0
Did a search and could not find a thread on bolt stick. Picked up a fairly new home brewed conversion and found that the bolt is sticking at the rear when I rack the bolt all the way to the back.....it appears that the hammer is holding it back.....appears that the bolt is riding against the hammer. No mag is in the well when I rack the bolt. The FFL, who I picked up the gun from, didn't think that the bolt stick was a big deal. There should be no BHO. The previous owner said he took it out. I can push the bolt back over the hammer. I haven't had a chance to go to the range yet to see if the bolt will stick on each shot. Is this common on new Saiga's? If so, will it eventually go away....sooner rather than later....ie will the spring on the hammer "lighten up"? I'm assuming that the "best" fix is to replace the spring on the hammer to a "weaker" spring and the "easiest" fix is to put on a stronger bolt spring (but bolt will be slamming back to the front pretty hard). I could also polish the bottom of the bolt and the hammer with a dremel. What would you do? Wait till the gun is broken in (if that's all that's needed and not a screwed DIY project) or fix the problem now? (It is not a primary home defense firearm, we use Glock & Ruger pistols)
nalioth 405
This is quite common when using a brand new Tapco G2 FCG. To solve it, just man up. The Kalashnikov is a man's rifle, not for sissies. Babying the bolt carrier into battery is not how Mr. Kalashnikov designed it. Pull the charging handle all the way to the rear and let it fly! Don't 'ride' it, or it will stick every time. After you shoot it, it'll wear in and things'll be copasetic.
Tim808 0
Thanks Nalioth!! You are the man. (I had to baby the bolt because it was 1:00am in the morning and didn't want to wake the neighbors. I'll mess around with the Saiga when the is family is out.)
Bad Bob 0
...I'm assuming that the "best" fix is to replace the spring on the hammer to a "weaker" spring and the "easiest" fix is to put on a stronger bolt spring (but bolt will be slamming back to the front pretty hard)... If I remember correctly (it's been a while) the stock 5.56 Saiga hammer has a slightly different contour than the aftermarket 'compliance' hammers, so the "best" fix might be to modify your AK 'compliance' hammer to match. I (personally) didn't bother - which brings us to the "easiest" solution (mentioned above by an extremely experienced individual) - just ignore it. On what the Old Media establishment calls the "plus" side: if you do not re-install your Saiga factory BHO, and if you ease the bolt forward (carefully!) so it just barely touches the 'Democrat-Party-required-non-mil-spec-almost-worthless-as-bull-crap-safety-inhibiting-compliance-hammer,' (that's the Obama-Pelosi-Reid "Signature" model, available from multiple manufacturers), and if you voted for 'HOPE' & 'CHANGE' (with not a single d@mn substantiated fact to back them up), you can MAYBE use the 'compliance' hammer as a 'Rube Goldberg' BHO, if your luck is consistent. (Personally, I wouldn't recommend it - never bet the safety of a firearm, or the future of your country, on pure, inexperienced, unsubstantiated luck - or on Socialists... ;>)
7.62smith 1
Friend of mine has an old Norinco Mak 90, it has had thousands of rounds through it and you can still ease the slide foward and it will rest on the hammer. To my knowledge this gun has never failed to function, I honestly was surprised when my Saiga DIDN'T hold itself open without the silly little tab being pressed up.
