CheepJerokee 0
Been along since I have posted. But, as usual, I really I am grateful for the advice from this forum. I own an 7.62x39 that I converted and i love it. Have even thought of selling my "Other Black Rifle" to buy a couple more. What is a good bolt action ( somewhat inexpensive) companion that will chamber the 7.62x39 round, as that I stocked up on just a a few. And yes, I know the best companion would be another Saiga. Thanx for your input.
imarangemaster 315
I am not too up on bolt guns, but I recall ruger made a boltg un, and I believe Remington. Why not just go with an SKS?
protected static 19
I recently stumbled across (but didn't bookmark - sorry) a gunsmith who sells a re-barreling kit for WWII-era Lee-Enfields to convert them from .303 to x39... [edited to add: Ouch. Looks like he's increased the price by almost $200.] Edited March 22, 2009 by protected static
superA 289
CZ makes one, I think it's in the $550-600 dollar range.
CheepJerokee 0
Ya. But i was looking more for a $250 range China gun or something. Don't know much about SKS. I can still buy x39 Saigas for round $420 so I would go that rout if i cant find something cheep. Wanted a couple of small game guns that chamber x39
CheepJerokee 0
Getting more tempted to trade my Bushy for another x39 and a s12.
imarangemaster 315
Better yet, trade the bushmaster for a 223 Saiga and S12
gtnichols 51
The SKS suggestion wasn't too bad,.. that would be in the right price range,..
CheepJerokee 0
I am not SKS literate. Any special model or kwirks I should look for?.......bet there is a good SKS board I can look for.
CheepJerokee 0
Not sure why. but locally the .223 Saiga is about $100 more than the x39.
imarangemaster 315
Shop around. Herte the 223 and 7.62x39 run the same. Could just be a local thing. As for SKSs, I don't have one, but like the Yugos. Here a link to the SKS/AK forum. LOTS of good info. http://forums.gunboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=
jcs44 0
I am not SKS literate. Any special model or kwirks I should look for?.......bet there is a good SKS board I can look for. I have a couple of Yugo SKS model 59/66. They're nice to shoot and the action is quite similar to the AK/Saiga. You can get a nice one with matching numbers and pretty much unused for around $200. Try Classic Arms or AIM. If you want a cheap bolt action, you can pick up a nice Russian Mosin Nagant 91/30 for under a hundred bucks in 7.62 x 54. A better choice is the Model 91/59 with a shorter barrel for around $150. x 54 ammo is plentiful. The better ones come from the Tula arsenal. jcs44 Edited March 23, 2009 by jcs44
vbrtrmn 167
As jcs44 mentioned the Yugo SKS 59/66 model is very good, probably one of the best SKS rifles ever made. It has an integrated grenade launcher, which can be removed in favor of a muzzle brake/flash hider. There are also some nice Romanian SKS rifles coming around, I think Southern Ohio Gun has them in stock. Unfortunately, the SKS does not meet your need for a bolt gun. I'd consider a Mauser in 7.62NATO/.308 (see ammo argument in sig) or a nice Mosin Nagant, but of course those don't meet your ammo requirements. VladTepes 160
Better yet, trade the bushmaster for a 223 Saiga and S12 sounds like a good idea... could probably trade a bushmaster for a converted saiga in 223... = )
DEshooter 1
http://www.sksboards.com I have a fine shooting Norinco CSI sks...here in DE (like new with original box) was $300. I only have a couple hundred rounds thru it but it is more accurate than my old eyes will do...grouping four rnds touching at 50yds. I can't bring myself to drill&tap the rcvr and I don't like the scope mounts that are available. So, since then I got my saiga 7.62 and will work on getting some time with it and eventually scope it with the factory side setup and a quick release. I don't know, but I would think a bolt action with a good barrel would be pretty good with 7.62x39 out to 300yds.
