putting on hk sites

Recommended Posts

I am about to put hk sites on my 308 and was wondering if anyone out there has done it themselves or do they take it to the gunsmith? I would like to put it on with silver soilder and would like to know how you lined them up. I was thinking of buying a bore sight and using that after installing the rear sight. Tell me what you think.

By profession, I'm a gold ,silver, and metalsmith. You can't silver solder HK sights on your gun without skewing the temper of the steel of your gun around the areas being soldered.

If your gun is good with the existing steel sights - if it ain't broke don't fix it. If you need better optics, consider a scope.

I would recomend trying some HK sights out before installing them on your 308, I have them on my x39 and S-12.

My point is about Accuracy, sure for a shotgun just about anything will work, a x39 well they have to be right on for that,... and for a .308 even more, and they are very different than standard sights.

Mine were TIG welded on by SaigaTech. They work great on my S12 and it is a super clean job! I would not try to silver soldier, epoxy or J&B Weld them on! This is how they should look. Check out for one of our Pros for similar results!

I have a PTR-91 so I know how to use the sights and have owned an Ak since I was 18 so I now that the AK sights are not the best. I know that silver soilder will affect the metal but we are talking about the dust cover in the rear and the gas block in the front. I am not going to be heating up the barrel and if I was I have seen peaople use some wood in the barrel to prevent any damage.
