Galil AR, ARM, SAR Polymer Handguard on AK47?

Recommended Posts

Sure thing, that will work. The Galil Front retainer is nearly identical to a standard AK retainer, but there is a rear retaining plate that holds the grip that you may be able to get by without (modifying the handguard) but it wont look quite right. The plate can be purchased from Blackthorne (not an endorsement, and pricey. 50-130 dollars for a little plate, depending on if you want the carry handle too) or from Ontario Guns at a better price (so ive heard, never ordered from them myself.) Or you can mock one up pretty easily with a little bit of fabrication skill, its essentially just a flat plate with an edge to hold the handguard, like a square pipe cap with the top cut off. Heres a pic to give you an idea.

Thanks for the info.. Looks to be pretty promising so long as I can stick the rear retainer plate..

Just saw this topic ...

It will work with a little minor fitting and as stated you'll need the rear retainer. It works best on milled rifles and works better if the front handguard retainer has the ears like the Bulgarian type. They can also be drilled to fit the cleaning rod but it's kind of a pain ...
