I was discussing this with a buddy, the other day and couldn't find a concise answer to the question.

Can I ship a firearm to myself in a different state?

Assuming that the firearm is a legal gun in both states. I know you have to do a transfer if you ship to another party, but could I ship it to me? The question came up when talking about it being a hassle to deal with the airlines and not wanting to risk special TSA treatment or even random (incorrect) seizure due to trying to fly with a firearm.

(B9) May a nonlicensee ship firearms interstate for his or her use in hunting or other lawful activity? [back]

Yes. A person may ship a firearm to himself or herself in care of another person in the State where he or she intends to hunt or engage in any other lawful activity. The package should be addressed to the owner. Persons other than the owner should not open the package and take possession of the firearm.

Address it to yourself, in care of whomever. Inform the person whose address you're using not to open it, and you're golden.

Remember, rifles/shotguns can be sent by any means, but hand guns can only go via contract carrier (not U. S. Mail).
