G O B 3,516
7.92 carcano from Hunters Lodge arrived today. $169.95 not a bad price---not great, but not bad.No nazi eagles-I didn't think that if it was marked that way that it would be original anyway. Hunters Lodge took entirely too long to ship. CC billed 5-02, gun arrived 5-31. The metal is in good shape, maybe 80% blue. The bolt locks up nice and smooth-and tight. The wood is fair to poor, many dings and some small chips-dirty as a D.C. whore. The grain looks like it will clean-up nicely with striped grain. The upper hand guard is split, and has 2 repairs, also it looks to be a crude replacement. The firing pin is broken. Ordered a replacement and 5 clips from Numerich for $41. More later after this project is done. G O B
G O B 3,516
Had the gun safe open the other day, and cleaned up the Carcano. Have the new firing pin in and the protusion set. While cleaning this I found Cryllic markings also. So this is an Italian rifle, in 8mm Mauser, with waffenmark, and Russian re-arsenal markings! Still looking for clips (rarer than an honest politician). Will take her to the range next nice day on the weekend. Without the proper enblock clip, it is a single shot, each round must be seated in the bolt, and then the bolt put into the rifle! This is a tiny rifle, I bet she will kick! (I also expect some FIREBALLS!) G O B
IndyArms 10,186
I dont know anything about it... but are these them?? http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=42712568 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=42750649 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=42874088 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=42792934 http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.asp?Item=42840694 There are more... I just did a search for carcano... and looked thru what came up... I would hate to see a rifle not shot properly for lack of a clip!
G O B 3,516
Those are for the Italian ammo. The guns that are chambered in 8MM mauser take a different clip that is so far as I can tell, made of "unobtanium!" The standard clips can be modified to work, but it also requires changing the mag latch. I'd rather not modify this one, as the triple nationality is just neater than hell! I have a friend making me some 8MM half power loads, so I will most likely get to bust her cherry this weekend. G O B
Bvamp 604
the 20 round clips that the german mausers took wont work huh? numrich has those, i think. or did.
G O B 3,516
The Carcano's are unique, they are closest to a Mannlicher. G O B
G O B 3,516
Busted her cherry today. This thing is TINY for an 8mm rifle. The 1/2 power rounds (10) were all over . Shot a 12" pattern at 25yds. Shot 2 full power loads. 1 dead center, one 1/2' to the right! All shots offhand. What a fun little carbine to shoot! Fixed sights, short, light-goes to point without thinking about it! The recoil was milder than I imagined, the full power rounds i shot were the Turk surp., and the recoil felt about the same as my 03-A3. Still looking for clips, as it is a pain to remove the bolt each time to snap in a round, put the bolt back in and fire! G O B Edited January 30, 2006 by G O B
