Boba Debt 350
I know nothing about revolvers so I have to ask. Can a Webley Mark V Chambered for 38 S&W be modified to shoot 38 Special or 357 Magnum?
mrmallek 53
I am no revolver expert but I just read an interesting piece on Webleys in Dillon's March or April catalog, have to find it. Anyway the conscensus was that the cylinder is too short - they may shoot 38 SW but that is not their ideal chambering either. Do you have or are you looking to procure one? If so - I can scan the article and send it to ya - PM me if so
Gunfanatic 221
No, the .455 Webley is 0.23 inches shorter than the .38 special.
Boba Debt 350
No, the .455 Webley is 0.23 inches shorter than the .38 special. I'm talking about the Webleys that are chambered in 38 S&W, they were made during WWI I guess the 38 S&W is shorter then the 38 Special So could I shoot 38S&W in a gun chambered for 38 Special? Kliegl 304
It's a question of power. I believe 38S&W < 38 Special < 357 mag. I know that you cannot physically chamber 357 mag in a 38 special gun, and this is for the very intentional purpose of not letting someone run hotter ammo than what the gun is made for. You can run 38 special in a 357 mag chambered gun, 45 Colt in a 454 Casul chambered gun, and 44 special in a 44 mag chambered gun, but not the other way around in any of those cases. However, the 38 S&W is NOT the same diameter as a 38 special/357 mag, so you could not run 38S&W in a 38 special gun, nor could you run it vice versa because of power. The 38 Long Colt is the parent cartridge of the 38 special, and the 357 mag. So, one could run 38 special and 38 long colt in a 357 mag gun, or 38 long colt in a 38 special gun. The 38S&W is not the same cartridge as those, so I would think that, since the cartridge is wider and less powerful a 38S&W gun couldn't shoot any other ammo listed above in my post. I suppose one might be able to mod a 38 special gun to work with 38S&W, but it sounds like a stupid idea.
