CBR Shadow 53
After firing my XDM .45 (about 100 rounds) I noticed there is cloudiness on the finish right near the end of the barrel on the outside of the gun. I'm sure this is just powder residue from shooting, but i want to make sure it's ok to put a solvent on that part of the gun. Would CLP work? CLP has a description that says it's solvent and lube.. thoughts? Or I could just go buy a dedicated solvent.. Thanks
iarneau 44
Arsenal's finish is generally regarded as sub-par, although CLP and Hoppe's neither have affected the finish on my SGL21, I'd say clean away.
CBR Shadow 53
This is a Springfield Armory XDm .45j - When you said Arsenal's finish is sub-par did you mean Springfield Armory's? I was under the impression that the finish on this gun is supposed to be very tough.
iarneau 44
No no, I mean since Arsenal's finish isn't the best (although I haven't had problems with it) the solvents and lubes mentioned above shouldn't harm your XD finish, since the finish Springfield uses on it's guns is better than what is on my SGL. ben4345 123
Which CLP are you talking about? CLP stands for Cleaner, Lubricant, Protector Breakfree Gunzilla and many others are CLP's

Breakfree is good as a protector, but I gotta say, it kinda sucks as a cleaner.
thebuns1 4,323
does fine for all my needs.
kresk 10,063
CLP or FP-10 is fine--no problems.
zenman223 460
Shouldnt even need solvent. I just wipe the powder residue off mine and it comes completely off. The finish on my XDM is extremely tough. When I first got it I thought I scratched it sticking it under the seat of my car one day. Then I realized it was the metal from the seat that rubbed off on the gun. Ive also left marks on it from the rivets in my jeans but still havent scratched it!
