negev5021 25
Just got my 1919 yesterday and have been fondling it a bit... lots of potential for sure - I see all these parts comming out and just cannot wait for this thing to flurish! As I was looking it over, I noticed a serial number on the front of the upper, and another, matching number in a metal tag like a glock serial number, under the trigger guard. So, which part is considered the "gun"? I see metal lowers as a total bonus if they can 1)easy swap or choice of AR stock 2) ease the field strip process (are these Turks joking?) and 3)Grip swap. All this would be killer, but very tough if the lower is the "gun"

Fallschirmjager667 729
i think he means which part is legally the receiver
negev5021 25
Correct. Sorry if I was unclear. Rarely do I see upper/lower with matching serial numbers, making it difficult to determine which would be considered the legal receiver. If in fact the upper is the registered part, the lower would be an easy swap, ala HK or Sig series rifles. If the lower is the "gun" you could reasonably swap out SBR(SBS) barrel lengths on the same lower. From the way it looks, you could potentially do BOTH with nobody knowing otherwise! Fallschirmjager667 729
i think tromix is making an aluminum lower, so maybe it is the upper that is the receiver, hard to tell, because on the saiga 12, the front trunnion is the receiver

The ATF doesn't even consider the Saiga 12 to have a trunnion. It does however consider it to have a receiver .....

YOT 3,743
And with an AR, the upper can be shipped to anyone, but the lower has to go to an FFL. Go figure.
TonyRumore 1,332
My guess is that the ATF considers the lower to be the Receiver, since the manufacturer and importer marks are both on the lower and not on the upper. Tony

Tony That makes sense. Do you find that as an obstacle to an improved lower in the future? If so I will be much more careful when I hack off that stock....
