ford_stud2004 0
Hey all. I was wondering if the handgun laws that go with cartridge firearms are the same as the ones for black powder firearms. Mainly age of purchase. Any info would be great.
IndyArms 10,186
heres a quick rundown on how it works in NY state as far as I know... If you are over 18 you can buy any of the following... Black powder pistol black powder ammunition for black powder pistols NOW... heres the kicker... IF YOU HAVE ALL THREE IN YOUR POSESSION, you had damn well better have that pistol licensed on your pistol permit, or you are going to get fucked with an ILLEGAL PISTOL, and all the love that goes with it!!! You may posess TWO OF the items on the list, but not all three!! Go figure.. I do not know the laws of that in other states...

Trailblazer 0
As far as New York goes, IndyArms is right on. I got caught twice shooting black powder revolvers before I got my permit. I found this link for Iowa http://www.state.ia.us/government/dps/asd/...%20of%20Permits Best bet is talk to your local PD or sherriff dept in person Black powder revolvers are fun to shoot and can be very accurate. I've owned a reproduction Walker, Remington, Colt and still shoot my Ruger Old Army. Good luck, Mike
ford_stud2004 0
Yea i looked at the weapon laws here and from what i understand there is no restrictions on black powder weapons. At least thats what it said in the pamplet i got at our sheriff reserve meeting the other night. and i ask a couple other reserves and the deputy there and they said i'd be all right. So i went on and ordered a 1858 New Army .44 cal. 5 1/2"BBL and i cant wait till she gets here. Thanks for your help
