ironhead7544 35
I have a K-Var stock I want to put on. What size screws are correct? The stock is already drilled. I have a set of stock screws but they are for the wood stock. The holes in the poly stock are smaller. Should I drill them out for the wood stock screws and if so, what size drill bit? Thanks
gunfun 3,931
Hold the screw next to a drill bit and choose a bit slightly smaller in diameter than the screw so that you can just see the shank on either side of the screw. Also there is nothing special about russian screws. I prefer to use an allen wrench machine screw for a cleaner finish.
Agent Lemon 157
Did a previous owner drill the stock? Because it can possibly be tricky to choose the correct screw if you don't know what the previous owner used. I just reuse the original saiga screws when I use polymer stocks. ironhead7544 35
The stock was on an Arsenal Rifle. K-Var sells the screws but it says "for virgin stocks only". Nor sure what that means. The screws on the website look different which is why I am asking about them. I think I have a set of Saiga screws somewhere, will look for them. The allen head screws sound good. Might go that route.
Agent Lemon 157
Last that I have seen, k-var sells some kind of smaller screws (at least for the sling swivel) for polymer stocks. The screws they sell are shorter, and have more threads that do not extend as far out as the ones for wood. I would just email k-var at their technical email.
