brickfield mfg 86
AFG2 is narrower and shorter than the AFG1. http://store.magpul.com/prod_detail_list/

brickfield mfg 86
I guess that would depend on your physical dimensions, and personal preference. I am 6'3", with large hands, and I use the original AFG.
Squishy 1,149
I like v1 better also. I think where v2 might be better is if there are issues on the side rails, the wider version might make certain attachments problematic.
Odd Man Out 1,283
Forget both of those -- check out the FAB Defense PTK. It is the next generation of AFG's. I own both the Magpul and the PTK and the PTK is better in all ways -- super comfortable. It was like they took the mold from my hand! There is no comparison... misterT 174
DOH *#$&^% you I already bought the magpul AFG2, between the two Magpul grips I bought the AFG2 because it moved my hold forward about 3/4 inch and it is also about 1/2 inch taller than the AFG1 making it easier and more comfortable to reach around the MD20 drum. It is just enough to get a hold on it, but I do like the contour of that fab defense PTK. it would be interesting to see the dimensions on it for a complete comparison. timy 1,185
I got the AFG2 for my wife's carbine because her hands are smaller. She's happy with it.

I like that, it looks like you could actually pull back on it. The AFG kind feels like I'm just holding it up unless I have my light or something to wrap my thumb around
Odd Man Out 1,283
Your index finger securely hooks around and can pull back but the rest of your fingers don't feet seperated from it. Also there is a storage compartment in it that can easily store a AA baterry. I have large hands and can shove my pinky finger all the way in and have room to spare. Can't recommend this thing enough.
Garys4598 1,065
AFG2 is narrower and shorter than the AFG1. http://store.magpul.com/prod_detail_list/88 Having owned both versions, the AFG2 also provides the ability to mount certain items on the forend's side picatinny rails (provided one has their forend handguard set-up for side rails) which the AFG1 does not. In other words, those upswept "wings" forward on the AFG1 can prevent the mounting of some side rail equipment (but not all equipment). Ergonomically, I favored the AFG1. . . but had to go with the AFG2 due to how I configured my Saiga's forend. To me, the AFG1's angle feels just slightly better (wrist position I suppose), but that's solely a personal preference thing. @ Odd Man Out -- The FAB Defense PTK looks sweet when viewing it from one's computer monitor; softer, more rounded lines and all contemporary and shit, but on the few photos that I have seen it mounted on a long gun. . . . depending on the long gun, it looks out of place (i.e., it's shape/styling looks STUPID on the rifle). If a cowturd could give me better handling on a weapon then I'd gladly put it on. Aesthetics only go so far -- function trumps everything. Personally, I like the looks of the thing -- I'm thinking of posting a vid review...

I picked one of the PTK's up at the gun show today. Been wanting one but just kept blowing it off for whatever reason. Anyhow, I put one on my new AR and I love this grip, There will be a Magpul AFG 1 up for sale tomorrow after I go buy another PTK for the S-12.
