Another Shooter Draws National Attention

Recommended Posts

Nonsense like this wouldn't happen in a country in which a higher percentage of the citizens were armed. I believe it's in Switzerland where about 9/10 citizens are armed, and guess how many violent crimes they have...about NONE. Who's going to commit a crime where 9/10 people are the good guys, and are armed? Who could stop this guy? The rent-a-joke security guard? Hell no! If there were 9/10 people in the mall that were armed, do you think he would've gotten 20 shots off and caused 8 casualities? Hell no! He wouldn't have tried it in the first place, but even if he did he would have been neutralized in the time it takes to draw a gun.

This shooter didn't even have a motive, he hated his life, he was calling for help. If this kind of call for help is answered with a .45ACP people would learn to seek appropriate help from a psychiatrist or a church or a gym. This guy knows he can go to a minimum security mental health facility and not have to work another day in his life. Bills are paid, food on the table, hang out and watch TV while my hard earned money supports him!

And what's worse, now people are going to say that if there were harsher gun control laws this wouldn't happen. BULLSHIT. Talk about letting the wolves amongst the sheep. What needs to be done is arm the sheep, then see how the wolves feed.

I'm really sorry Jon, I didn't mean to insult you or all security personel. I should have been more careful with my choice of expressions. There are some VERY good security companies that do deserve reverence and respect. I work at the Environmental Protection Agency (gov't agency that's scared of terrorist action) and it is protected by private securty and they aren't folks to mess with. Just the composure of the female guards suggest they could tear me apart without their .357 on their hip, and I'm not a little guy to beat up.

However, most mall security is not armed and have little authority. I realize that there's a good reason for this, namely there's a bunch of people in a mall and any shot will pose a serious risk to innocent by-standers. For the most part mall security is for an escort at night to your car, to talk to solicitors/loiterers and get them to move on, and to chase after shop-lifters. They just aren't trained or prepared to deal with folks with an "assault rifle". Perhaps in Texas it's different, but here mall security consists of a over-weight guy with a flashlight that a pre-teen could outrun, and a .22 caliber could out-gun, and no criminal would give them two thoughts. I appreciate their efforts, but I also realize their limited results which has to be frustrating for them as well as the public.

If the security were to be more like you and your kind in Texas, it would be a different story and that is what I think needs happen. I just don't trust that a police will be in the right place at the right time everytime a crime happens, or will even be prepared to handle it. Thus, arm the private citizens and train them. The more good guys with guns, the better. I don't believe that there'd be a billion fire fights with bullets raining from the sky like everyone claims would happen. I think the deterant effect would be very positive and crime would be minimized.

I imagine all security guards wish for more authority and protection, and I appreciate the services they do provide: even the mall-security that criminals don't much respect. I'm glad they keep loiterers minimized, I'm glad they can offer escorts at night, and I'm glad they act as a deterant for some criminal activity. I just wish they, or the citizens had more power to protect themselves. That being said, I'm sorry that I used a gross over-generalization that seemed very derogatory.

having worked in the armed security field, many leo's do, i know that most security is crap. not to mention that unarmed security is totaly worthless. mostly just an insurance handjob. "hey you with the gun, stop shooting or i'll say stop again".

of course, many of the leo's i know are little better.
